Alesis M1 Active 520 Powered Studio Monitors

The Alesis M1 Active 520 is a newly designed, affordable, high-precision active reference monitor with Bass Density control and EQ. The M1 Active series offers incredible definition and flat frequency response from the high-precision drivers and a professionally crafted crossover. The cabinet and drivers have been redesigned for a bold new look and even greater sonic clarity.

The M1 Active 520 has a 1 inch thick front baffle, which minimizes speaker resonance, and the visually stunning acoustic waveguide evenly disperses high-frequency sound across your control room. The M1 Active includes new Bass Density technology, which allows you to tailor these monitors to any room’s acoustics. The distinctive top-mounted power/clip indicator lets you know if the speaker is clipping.

The M1 Active 520 features a 75-Watt amplifier and a 5 inch low frequency woofer, while the M1 Active 620 features a 100-Watt amplifier and 6.5 inch low frequency woofer.

QUALITY:
Decent quality for the price. Right side of tweeter cutout in wave guide clearly not circular.

FEATURES:
More tone adjustments than others in this price range.

EASE OF USE:
Rear mounted volume control was not well thought out. Considering these are for PC/desktop apps, volume control should be within reach while sitting in sound field. Front mounted volume control badly missed.

VALUE:
Good value at $200/pair for entry level monitors. Would not pay more than that.

SOUND:
Very good sound. Considering the minimal size (which is perfect for desktop), they have tight bass with smooth transition to high end.

As good as it gets!!! All finishing, switches, pots... perfect! I can't yet vouch for reliability until I have had them a while but based on what I see so far don't think they will be a problem at all.

FEATURES:
How can you get a better deal than this? First thing I noticed was the stereo imaging was excellent and they had a MUCH larger "sweet spot" than the small 5" Events they are replacing. With the Event speakers you could hear a big difference just moving several inches off axis,.... these are great, I can actually move around, lean back in my chair, whatever.... and still get it ALL - VERY NICE! The room contour & EQ tailoring switches are very thoughtfully set up and a BIG bonus. I like the mid boost for occassional use on some projects also. If you wonder if the "Acoustic Space" is actually working (you ought to be able to hear the clear difference anyway if you have "ears") try it all way off and walk out of the room to an adjacent

the housing for these monitors is SOLID! they are very well made and stable pieces. they white part is actually a grey tone with mine, but that doesn't matter. the blue CLIP LIGHT under the power switches is a very nice feature also. it lets you know when the speaker is clipping unlike when your mixer might take awhile before you get an accurate response.

FEATURES:
my favorite features are the switches on the back. it allows you to craft your sound around the room you're in. i'm very impressed with these products. i've been working with music, recording, mixing, and mastering for about 7 years now and i'm glad i made this purchase. perfect for my small size home studio. the only thing i need is a good sub for that real low response

EASE OF USE:
this product is a SET-UP-AND-GO product. plug them in, patch them into your mixer, and start rocking tracks.

VALUE:
this product is well worth the 199.99 wit
