Alesis SR 18 Drum Machine

The Alesis SR18 Drum Machine takes some cues from the legendary SR16 but adds many new features for today's musicians.
The Alesis SR18 is loaded with cutting-edge drum kits, electronic drums, hits, and up-to-date percussion sounds for any modern drummer. From hip-hop, to country and everything in-between, the SR18 has you covered. The integrated effects engine includes Reverb, EQ and Compression for customizing the sounds to your liking. Plus the SR18 can be controlled by footswitch pedals (sold separately) for start/stop and A-b fill/Count.

Subject:Alesis SR 18 reviewed
Quality: The physical construction is no problem..
Features: Obvious improvements are the backlight, headphone out, sensible volume control position, and battery option
Ease of Use: Not good. The SR 16 prided itself on being an easy machine to use at a gig. The 18 is not ..try playing a song at 145bpm and at the end speeding it up to 152 for the end of the song. If you fumble the silly press and hold´´´function, the tempo can easily end up at 42bpm oops sorry audience ..come back next week ...I might get it right. The machine does not default to your last pattern when you switch it on..either write it down or memorise it..what a pain. When copying patterns to another location, drum fills do NOT travel with the main pattern..more time wasted. Pad velocity always defaults to medium so if you are using it live and hit a big coda manually, then if you haven´t remembered to reset velocity, then there´s only a weak response from the pads...more time wasted.
Sound: There are several other disappointing aspects to this machine but maybe I´ve moaned long enough. The Bass function is just a waste of time for live stuff as you are always tied to Song Mode if you want to do anything involving more than 4 parts as the same bass line is always ¨married ¨to the same pattern or fill..how boring
Action: Don´t know what you mean by this
Value: It´s not especially expensive, so I´ll hang on to it for a while. After 18 years of the SR16, Alesis have wasted a great opportunity to corner the market for another 18 years, certainly with this difficult and long-winded machine.
