b>The History of AMPEG...

In 1946, Everette Hull, an acomplished pianist and bass player, organized a partnership with Stanley Michaels under the name Michaels-Hull Electronic Labs. Their mission was to produce a new microphone pickup that Hull designed. The pickup was fitted on the end of an upright bass and was dubbed the Amplified Peg or Ampeg for short.

In 1949, Hull became the sole proprietor and changed the name of the company to the Ampeg Bassamp Company. Since that time, Ampeg has produced some of the music industry's most innovative and memorable products, satisifying the needs of musicians all over the world. Many of these products feature incredibly unique features and performance capabilities resulting in six U.S. patents under the Ampeg brand name.

In 1960, a design engineer by the name of Jess Oliver created a combo amplifier with a chasis that could be inverted and tucked inside the speaker enclosure, protecting the inner workings and increasing the portability of the the amp. Nicknammed the Portaflex, this amplifier became the standard in bass combos throughout the 60's and 70's.

Also in the early 60's, Ampeg was the first company to incorporate reverb in an amplifier. The Reverbrocket preceded Fender's Vibroverb (often thought of as the original) by nearly 2 years. In 1969, Ampeg set out to design the most powerful amplifier ever made. At that time, 50-watt amps were considered more than adequate. 100-watt amps were considered plenty loud. Ampeg, however, not only harnessed 300 watts of pure tube power but actually created a new valve (tube) technology - Super Valve Technology, or the SVT. Now the most sought after stage amplifier, the SVT has proven its road worthiness on stages around the world.

In 1986, St. Louis Music, Inc purchased Ampeg and continues the tradition of making quality, musician-satisifying products. The current series of Ampeg Classic models, Pro Series products, B Series heads and combos as well as the updated re-issue Diamond Blue Series are among the latest in the evolution of the professional, innovative and feature laden amplifiers available.

Subject:The B2RE absolutely Rocks!
Quality: What I would like to stress here is the quality of the customer service I received after the sale. I received my new set-up (Ampeg B2RE, B410HLF, and various accessories) a few days before a gig. When I plugged in, I could hear a horrible crack; especially when I slapped. I break in my speakers and know quite a bit about electronics. I started on the lowest volume possible, so I knew it was an amp problem. The amp arrived factory sealed, and it was of no fault of AMS. I’m confident it was a broken connection as a result of rough shipping -- it could have happened to any retailer. I called AMS’s customer service expecting the usual dreaded experience with virtually every online retailer; what I received was nothing short of exceptional. Not only did they provide me a shipping label to ship it back, rush the shipment to me in time for my gig, but they provided a first class experience the entire way. As a business professional myself, I can give no higher recommendation.
Features: The sound quality is fabulous. I play an USA Fender Jazz, and the sound I get is phenomenal. I’ve played though many amps and it’s the best by a long shot. The limiter works very well, and evens out my slapping nicely. It has an impressive XLR out, which allows you to go pre or post eq and adjust the volume -20db. This is nice for me, because I want a post eq signal, but I can tone it down for the PA. I bought a rack case for it, as I’ll be gigging a lot with it. You should be concerned with carrying it without a case, as this amp is built well, and you can notice it in every detail.
Ease of Use: I like simple, quality controls that are easy to adjust. This amp is great for on the fly adjustments, due to the ultra mid control. The 9 band eq is nice for room adjustments. It’s as simple as you can get for a great sounding amp.
Sound: I use this amp though an Ampeg B 410HLF cab, and an American Jazz. The sound I get is exactly what I want. I play Rock, Jazz, Funk, and Country. I can get any sound I look for, and it’s always amazing.

Excellent! I bought the B2R head maybe 5-6 years ago "used" & never had a problem out of it! I accidently ran a 2 ohm load with it one time not paying attention to the crossover pannels on the cab's I pushed with it & it still kept on pushing, & that was a constant 2 hrs of playing might I add! So that goes to tell you how good these heads really are, not saying that it's ok to exceed the 4ohm rating stated on the rear panel & manual! To add to that, I have to confess, it was knocked over once or twice, & I also carried it through rain before I finally bought an SKB case to put it in, and it still never failed on me! Oh, and I left it in the trunk of the car in the cold winter & snow several times, and hot summer heat & I was afraid to turn it on cause I just knew it was going to have a melt down & blow out on me, but it didn't I Will Never Doubt Ampeg! Ever! 5

"The best feature of AMS is its ability to offer customers the option of payments. Many of us cannot afford to outlay a chunk of cash for an item. And, AMS provides a payment option unlike a credit card that really is a godsend for musicians who are broke most of the time." Nov '08
