Audio Technica AT4033 Condenser Microphone

The Audio Technica AT4033CL was originally introduced in 1991 and almost singly-handedly shaped the market for high-quality, affordable studio condenser mics. Its strong up-front presence and versatility made it an instant hit for vocals and instruments. The new Audio Technica 4033 Classic brings it all back, with a cardioid polar pattern and a vapor-deposited gold-plated aged-diaphragm capacitor element for accurate reproduction of even the subtlest sounds. The AT4033CL has an extended flat frequency response of 30-20,000 Hz, a wide dynamic range, and the ability to handle high SPLs without sacrificing high-frequency performance. Includes shock mount, a dust cover, and a protective mic case. The AT4033/CL is intended for use in professional applications where remote power is available. It requires 48V DC phantom power, which may be provided by a mixer or console, or by a separate, in-line source such as the Audio-Technica AT8801 single-channel and CP8506 four-channel phantom power supplies. An integral 80 Hz high-pass filter provides easy switching from a flat frequency response to a low-end roll-off. The high-pass position reduces the microphone’s sensitivity to popping in close vocal use. It also reduces the pickup of low-frequency ambient noise (such as traffic, air-handling systems, etc.), room reverberation and mechanically coupled vibrations.

Audio Technica AT4033CL Features
  • A strong up-front presence characterizes the sonic signature of this versatile pro-audio classic
  • Transformerless circuitry virtually eliminates low-frequency distortion and provides superior correlation of high-speed transients
  • Precision-machined, nickel-plated brass, acoustic element baffle provides enhanced element stability and optimal sensitivity
  • The 2-micron-thick, vapor-deposited gold diaphragm undergoes a five-step aging process so that the optimum characteristics achieved remain constant over years of use
  • Floating-construction capsule assembly provides isolation from noise and vibration
  • Open acoustical environment of the symmetrical housing assembly minimizes unwanted internal reflections
  • State-of-the-art surface-mount electronics ensure compliance with A-T's stringent consistency and reliability standards

Subject:AT Website is Right, This is the Bluegrass Mic
Overall:

QUALITY:
This thing blew my Behringer B-2 out of the water.Good and clean, almost no feedback problems.

FEATURES:
Definately made well, the only complaint is the shock mount does not grip as much as I would like and it did not come with a wind screen.

EASE OF USE:
Plug and Play

VALUE:
I have used $69.00 Samsons and Behringers B1,B2 in this configuration. The B2 is about half the money as the 4033 and you get about half the mic. You get what you pay for. Spend the money the first time and it will be cheaper in the long run.

SOUND:
Crystal clear and not feedback. I play bluegrass we all gather round/5 instruments and 3 vocals at the same time (brother where art... style) and this thing picks it all up and delivers.

STYLE:
Bluegrass

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
30+ years

OVERALL:
Playing the music style we do on stage inside and out is not as easy as it sounds.

Subject:Excellent project studio LDC microphone
Quality: The construction on this product was appropriate for its pricepoint.
Features: The features offer exactly what you expect. If you want switchable polar patterns just step up to a 4050.
Ease of Use: I think this mic is easy to get a good tone from if you're willing to put forth even a minor amount of effort in adjusting its placement, which is true for any microphone at any pricepoint. Very well suited to vocals and acoustic instruments, and enough of an all-rounder that it's definately a good addition to my mic rack.
Sound: I haven't found this mic to give poor results on any vocal sources yet, though of course microphones interact with voices in different ways and so not every mic is a match for every vocalist. Add a pop filter 3 inches out and tell the inexperienced to stick their mouth right up to it and you certainly won't get poor results. Also had great results from tracking acoustic guitar from people who are able to not dance on their stool while recording (ie, hold the instrument in a relatively fixed position please...)
"Great website and service. I especially like the Easy Payments. Thanks for a great service."
