Audix DR456 Drum Microphone Package

The Audix DR456 Drum Microphone Package produces thunderous drum sounds but is also versatile enough for nearly any application you can throw at it. The package includes a beefy Audix D6B, four Audix i5’s, and four Audix D-Vice mounting clamps all for a ridiculously low price that every studio pro and beginning engineer will be able to afford.

Audix D6B
The Audix D6 Bass Drum Microphone will not disappoint anyone looking for a huge, clean, undistorted kick drum sound in stage or studio applications. Bass Drum Mic Rule #1: If you want your kick drum to kick butt just put the Audix D6 Bass Drum Mic on the job. Designed and built in the USA by Audix specifically for the unique sub frequencies and attack of the bass drum, the D6 is highly sensitive between 80Hz and 120Hz, scooped in the mids, and boosted in the high frequencies. The result, you get all the bottom, none of the mud, and a clean, clear attack that usually requires no additional EQ or processing. Perfect! The cardioid pattern of the D6 makes it less placement-sensitive so you don't have to search around for the sweet spot during sound check. The casing of the D6 is milled from a block of solid aluminum so the D6 is a great road dog and an incredible studio performer. Comes with mic clip and carry pouch. The D6 has a frequency response of 30 Hz - 15 kHz and is characterized with a cardioid pick-up pattern. The D6 capsule features the same legendary VLM technology that has made the D series percussion and instrument microphones very popular for today's live stages and recording studios.

Audix i5
The Audix i5 was designed by the true microphone experts at Audix to handle a wide variety of applications and survive the absolute torture of live sound gigs. The Audix i5 is the ideal choice for snare, toms, percussion instruments, and can even handle the blistering SPL levels of electric guitar cabinets. Built around a bulletproof transformerless - XLR balanced design and housed in a precision cast zinc-alloy case with a steel mesh grill (stick hits no problem here), the i5 is a super-smooth dynamic mic featuring 50-16kHz frequency response and a very useable cardioid pattern with incredible off-axis rejection (>23dB) for exceptionally high gain before feedback.

Audix DVice
The D-Vice by Audix is a super tough rim-mount mic clamping system featuring a quick release Sure-Grip spring-loaded clamp and a heavy-duty gooseneck for quick and precise adjustments. Accepts standard 5/8 inch thread mic clips. With a low profile and a unique mounting system, the D-Vice will attach to the rim of most drums and rimmed percussion. Providing a benefit to both the player and the engineer, the low profile mount will provide precise positioning and can be attached using only 1 hand. Precision molded out of composite material, the patent pending D-Vice can easily accommodate any 5/8 inch microphone clip. With the introduction of the D-Vice, the drummer's concerns about microphone positioning are eliminated. Audix has subjected the D-Vice to rigorous road testing and it is rock solid. With the low profile and low mass, it is extremely convenient for the drummer and the engineer.

The D- Vice Clamps are not quite strong enough to support the i5's. They were intended for a smaller mic.

Very good value compared to sure drum mic pack

Excellent reproduction of drums. THe D6 sounds great on the bass drum.

Subject:Audix Drum Mics vs. Shure Standards
Overall:

QUALITY:
These mics are all very well constructed, featuring a very rugged and dependable metal casing.

FEATURES:
Well as far as microphones go there aren't many features. these are obviously designed as instrument mics, the features they all share is a cardoid pattern which is good because you are close miking drums and you don't want bleed. Being dynamic elements they can withstand the high SPL's of a drumset. They also feature contoured frequency responses that help to achieve a very nice beefy sound (for the i5's the lower mids are emphasized, which I like over the Shure SM57 since it gives some balls to your toms and for the D6 it's contoured to give you the subharmonics, a clean midrange free of mud, and a clean present high end that brings the snap of the attack). Very well thought about for miking drums.

EASE OF USE:
Well, I'm a sound engineer so I found it to be pretty easy, just get a low profile boom stand for the bas
