| Quality:
| What I received was way more than what I was expecting! This wah is one of the heaviest of the 15 or so wahs I currently own. The chrome rocker bezel is really sharp. The double-dipped black-on- black paint on the thick metal bottom cover is slick. The small yin yang symbol under the side mounted pot is a nice touch. The "BEN" symbol on the rocker appears as though it was hand inlaid. Even the battery holder is an upgrade from the norm. The side-mounted pot on this baby is as smooth as silk... no low-bid parts here. I opened the wah to have a look at the interior layout and it was perfect... all cables neatly bundeled and tied off with mimi cable straps and high quality components throughout. Man, even the quality of the box deserves mention! It's evident that the team at BBE have obsessed over the details on this product and it clearly shows. |
| Reliability:
| I think you could throw this wah off a bridge and it would still run just fine. (Please Note: Not recommended and will surely void your warranty). Incidently, at five years, the warranty on this pedal is basically five times better than the rest of the world.I would use this pedal confidently without a backup. |
| Overall:
| The Ben aka "symbol wah" pedal sounds so fine! After all, it's all about the sound. The sound is so "polite", sweet and smooth. You can "park" the rocker at any position and it sounds great. The switch does not "snap" when you engauge and disengauge. The pedal is hardwire bypass so it doesn't mess with your precious original guitar sound. Most importantly to me is that it maintains a loud clear bass range when engauged. None of my other wahs do this as nicely as the Ben wah. I suspect that it has something to do with its' class A electrical design. |
| Playability and Feel:
| The pedal feels perfect. All the pots are smooth and positive. The I/O jacks are smooth. The factory adjustment to the kick switch was just the right height to facilitate easy on/off switching. The center detent on the yin yang "Q" pot is a sweet touch! This the only wah I have with an on/off LED indicator. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it but now that I have it on the Ben, I wish all my other wahs had it too. |
| Tone:
| I played the Ben through a miriad of test beds and it excelled at every new challenge. Marshall DSL410, Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue, Digitech RP150, Guitar Rig 3, using a number of single coil and humbucker equipped guitars whilst paired with various and sundry effect pedals. |
| Finish:
| The best in my collection. Very heavy cast flat-black hammertone base. Chrome bezel on rocker. Metallic inlaid "BEN" symbol (it means back and forth) on rocker. Black reference dot on metal, domed, knurled tele-style yin yang "Q" knob. Small yin yang symbol under "Q" control. Thick, double black metal bottom plate with clear I/O indications. |
| Action:
| The action out of the box was perfect. Even the box was cool. So many wahs that I've purchased have arrived in ugly plain white or brown boxes with little, and more often no info or graphics. The Ben wah arrived in a beautiful, heavy, refined red box with a large gold color "BEN" symbol and other nice info on the box... like I said earlier, BBE has clearly obsessed over the details here and I love it! |
