Overall Rating
Beautiful guitar but needs a setup badly!
What is your overall opinion of this product?
The blue acrylic BC Rich Mockingbird is a great-looking guitar. Out of the box I could tell right away that the guitar needed new strings and a setup...badly. Once I do that I feel the guitar will be quite playable.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
The guitar arrived in great condition cosmetically. It was made in China, but except for initial tuning and setup issues
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The guitar is pretty heavy, weighing in at 10 pounds. The thin maple neck is buttery smooth. The controls are arranged vertically like a Tele, with a master tone, two volumes, and a 3-way pickup selector toggle switch.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
I haven't even plugged it in yet because of the tuning and playability issues I encountered. The dual BC Rich BDSM humbuckers should prove to be decent, if not exceptional, pickups.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The clear acrylic guitar body is a brilliant cobalt blue. It looks fantastic!
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
The guitar listed at $899, was selling at AMS for $449, and thanks to the AMS Weekly Deal was bought at $349. So, pricewise I am very happy. To be honest, there aren't too many acrylic-bodied guitars to compare it to!
How was the action out of the box?
Terrible. I couldn't get the tuners to hold tune and the strings buzzed against the upper frets. As I've said, the guitar REALLY needs new strings and a pro setup.
