Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 EqualizerThe Behringer ULTRA-CURVE PRO DEQ2496 is an ultra high-precision digital 24-bit/96 kHz EQ/RTA mastering processor. Its extremely high audio performance makes it ideal for audiophile mastering and PA purposes.
There are 4 concurrently selectable EQ modules (31-band graphic EQ, 10-band parametric EQ, Feedback Destroyer and three dynamic EQs per channel). A dynamic EQ helps you remove unwanted frequencies dynamically, only affecting the peaks instead of carving a hole in the overall sound.
The DEQ2496 also boasts balanced inputs and servo balanced outputs with gold-plated XLR connectors, stereo aux output, AES/EBU and S/PDIF inputs and outputs (XLR and optical). Another highlight is the additional 61-band RTA that can run simultaneously with the EQ section. The DEQ2496 features high-quality AKM® 24-bit/96 kHz A/D and D/A converters and two high-performance 32/40-bit floating-point SHARC® digital signal processors for ultimate sonic resolution and 113 dB dynamic range. There are also multi-functional level meters (peak/RMS, VU and SPL meter with dBA/dBC weighting via RTA mic input) plus 64 user memories for complete setups and/or individual module configurations. You get a separate RTA mic/line input with phantom power, a professional wordclock input and MIDI connections for full remote control, preset dumps and system updates.
The internal switch-mode power supply assures maximum flexibility (100 - 240 V~), noise-free audio, superior transient response and lowest possible power consumption. Like all BEHRINGER products, the DEQ2496 was manufactured under ISO9000 certified management.

OVERALL: I gotta admit that Behringer is not one of my favorite audio gear manufacturers. Most of the time, their stuff are cheap copies of other company's gear. But, when I needed an RTA for mastering, this was pretty much my only chance. When I actually got it, I discovered that this little thing is absolute amazing!! Now, I'm not gonna go use it for it's A/Ds or it's eqs (other than for monitoring purposes), but it's one hell of a Real Time Analyzer. It's extremely easy to use and does everything a good RTA should. I thought that, at one rack space, the display would be too small. When I used it though, I found that it's perfect. Even though it's a small screen, it displays everything you would need to see. You can scroll up and down through the dynamic range if you want to see the freq. response at extreme higher or lowe

QUALITY: Quality of this product is excellent! I bought the B-stock item to save a few dollars and I still couldn't find the "blemish". Built to withstand abuse.
FEATURES: Holy crap! I was playing around in the submenus and found something I didn't expect to find on a sub $1500 equalizer: TEMPERATURE! That's right, you can enter in the room temperature (in Celsius) and it automatically compensates the EQ. Having the RTA built in was also awesome. Its not the fastest (in a really crappy room, the "fast" setting took about 20 minutes, but only took about 5 minutes in a church) but it does an AWESOME job with the ECM8000 mic.
EASE OF USE: Plug it in right after your console and go! The only thing I didn't like was submenus (or pages as they call it) but that's understandable in a product with this many good features. The manual covered 99% of everything (it missed the temperature adjustment unless I overlooked that). Also, in ty

QUALITY: I've come to expect good things of Behringer gear, and this unit doesn't disappoint. The DEQ seems as well-designed and built as any high-end gear available.
FEATURES: Incredible unit! One rack space containing an RTA with Auto-EQ function, a graphic EQ, a paragraphic EQ, compression/expansion, feedback eliminator, limiter, stereo field widener and more! I especially like the optical S/PDIF input and output so I can interface my laptop and M-Audio Firewire 410 without any ground-induced hash noise.
EASE OF USE: I've been using Cakewalk Sonar lately for mixing my recordings, and the DEQ's menus seem to be designed a lot like the Sonitus FX plug-in modules used in Sonar. They're very easy to understand, if you already have a feel for these things. I wouldn't recommend this unit to a beginner...they'd be better off with Behringer's FBQ Series equalizers. This unit is for people who truly understand EQ and compression, among othe

QUALITY: The worst feature of this product is the manual! It is VERY confusing and there is no troubleshooting section.
FEATURES: I could not make it work. It lit up real pretty, but it was smarter than me.
EASE OF USE: VERY difficult. The manual stinks. If you are like me, and you are new to this kind of equipment, it will be VERY difficult to use.
VALUE: I don't know.
SOUND: I don't know, I was trying to Auto EQ using the ECM8000 mic, and every time I hit start, it muted the mains! How can it analize anything when there is no sound. Hit stop, and the mains are unmuted! |
