Behringer Autocom Pro XL MDX1600 Processor

Now, for less than the price of a handful of good cables, you can dramatically improve the sound and impact of your mix with a powerful dynamics processor. The new Autocom Pro-XL is an Interactive reference-class 2-channel Expander/Gate/Compressor/Peak limiter with an integrated Dynamic Enhancer, De-esser and Low Contour Filter. This combination of features, plus automatic and manual interactive controls makes it a powerful tool that's easy to operate. The automatic voice-adaptive De-esser with male/female voice recognition removes those hideous "S" sounds from vocals and sibilance from overly bright signal sources. The onboard Expander provides virtually inaudible noise suppression, even under heavy compression. Other features include switchable hard bypass and XLR & 1/4" inputs & outputs.

The AUTOCOM PRO-XL MDX1600 is loaded with many of the same features as the COMPOSER PRO-XL. Additionally it features a unique adjustable IDE dynamic enhancer that provides subtle and very musical compensation for the bass “boost” effect that results from heavy compression.

Behringer Autocom Pro XL MDX1600 Features

  • Switchable IKA (Interactive Knee Adaptation) program-adaptive compression circuitry combines the advantages of hard-knee and soft-knee characteristics
  • Adjustable dynamic enhancer with level meter for brilliant, lively audio even with heavy compression
  • IGC (Interactive Gain Control) peak limiting circuitry combines clipper and program limiter for reliable and inaudible protection against signal peaks
  • Switchable de-esser removes excessive sibilance from your vocal tracks
  • IRC (Interactive Ratio Control) expander/gate circuitry for virtually inaudible noise suppression
  • Automatically or manually adjustable attack and release times
  • Switchable low contour filter prevents "pumping" due to low-frequency dominated compression
  • Stereo couple function with independent output level settings
  • Switchable side chain input with side chain monitor function
  • Ultra low-noise 4580 operational amplifiers and state-of-the-art THAT® VCA's
  • Separate 12-segment LED meters for input/output levels and gain reduction
  • Dedicated "traffic light" threshold and enhancer level displays
  • High-quality detented ALPS® potentiometers and illuminated switches
  • Servo-balanced inputs and outputs with 1/4" TRS and gold-plated XLR connectors
  • Manufactured under ISO9000 certified management system

Product is great and I'd love a rack to mount it in.

FEATURES:
Many features. It does take a person with some intelligence to read the instruction book and set it up. Once done VIOLA

EASE OF USE:
Very good

VALUE:
Excellent. I assume not much better for maybe three or more times price.

SOUND:
GREAT, I produce a radio FM folk-Americana show in my home studio. This unit functions exceptionally well.

STYLE:
Folk, Blues, Jazz

OVERALL:
Great, with many extra features. You need to work with it for a while to set it up as it should be.

Subject:Your search is over - it ends with the MDX1600
Overall: I've owned an Alesis and others and this unit blows them away. Much easier to use and much more forgiving with heavy compression. When I want a gate to function, I want it NOW!! The MDX delivers. The de-esser works too - imagine that!!

QUALITY:
Rock solid Behringer - as you would expect.

FEATURES:
I really like the automated soft-hard knee feature - dummy proof and no mess function when transitioning from soft to loud songs during a gig. Makes studio life a lot easier as well!!

EASE OF USE:
This is the easiest set up compressor / gate / limiter I've ever owned. Manual is well written.

VALUE:
You can't find anything comparable for less that $100...

SOUND:
I don't even need my EQ now with the enhancer network - it brings the highs back up even after heavy compression. In the studio - I just plug the MDX1600 straight into my Korg digital and start recording -
