Featuring Class A, Single Ended circuitry, it delivers the complete, classic, touch responsive tube tone you need but at more manageable volumes for apartment dwellers and recording sessions. Designed on a beer stained cocktail napkin, prototyped, built and tested in a one car garage in Austin, TX, and engineered to the same strict standards as the Little Giant 5, this little head delivers the tones, the smells and the attitude you want when sonic bliss is everything and volume needs to be kept at bay. The Killer Ant embraces 100% classic all tube circuitry but, instead of a high power tube output section, it boasts a clever, all tube power block pumping out a mere fraction of 1W. What you get is arena rock tone at bedroom levels. That means no more angry neighbors. Like its big bro, it features completely overbuilt component specs, from 1W resistors in the signal path to double sided PCB with 2 oz traces. Even its diminutive cabinet, just over palm sized, is built to take a beating with 15 ply (18mm) void-free wood covered expertly in durable black tolex. Final touches include distinctive white piping accents and a salt & pepper cloth covered front baffle. 4, 8 and 16-ohm extension speaker jacks allow you to hook the Ant into virtually any cab you like, including a 4 X 12. However, its counterpart, the Killer Cab, is designed to be its perfect soul mate. Sound: The sound is a warm but bluesy sound that crunches nicely at higher volumes. Reliability: This is a little tank. This very well built and will be around fro a very long time to come. Quality: Appears to be very well made, yes. Excellent materials, very rugged. Sound: Thick, warm, bluesy, tubey. It responds great to a TS808. It even made my MD-2 sound great and that pedal sounds like I threw my Blues Junior into a galvanized trash can when I play it through that - I hate that pedal with my BJ. But pedals aren't why I bought it. For the first few hours, I played it straight up as it was meant to be played - and the tone is exactly as you would expect - a nice driven tube sound. The more you take up the volume, the more bark you get. When you roll the tone back on your guitar, it smooths out very nicely. Still working to find the sweet spot on this thing, but I will - I haven't had it more than a few days at this point. But first impressions are that I made exactly the right choice. I play a Gibson Les Paul Classic with SD Antiquity PU's (BR and NK). Reliability: No idea on this, but my perception is that it appears to be built very, very well and should hold up for a long time. I don't gig - just play in my basement, so it won't travel much. as such, it will likely outlast me. Overall: It is what it says it is and nothing more. I've not had it very long, it was a little hard to find out there and not in stock at most places. But this is an all tube gremlin that fits exactly what I've been looking for for some time now; an amp that allows a family man, like me, to reach full power tube saturation levels without waking up the wife and kids late at night. These things just aren't out there on the market right now, save for some boutique stuff that you pay through the nose for. This does the same thing at a family / working man's price level. Kudos to Blackheart for meeting the demand of what I know has to be sought after. I have a Fender Blues Junior that sounds great when turned up - but it only sounds average at the levels I need to play it at. This thing gives me the punch I was looking for without the nagging from the wife... Playability and Feel: Only one control, volume - as it should be. That other stuff just confuses the issue anyway. I know you can do a bitmo mod to add a tone control and an OD switch. I'm not sure I need all that. Tone: This is not a bright amp at all. The Blues Junior I have is much brighter, as the Fenders generally are from what I hear. This is a more vintage sound to my ears, with the BH110 cab - it's punchy, smooth, a little dark and garage like. The little monster breathes, I love it ! Finish: Looks great. The logo might be a little over scaled for such a small amp, but I suppose it's standard size. Action: Didn't come with the speaker cable so I had to run out and get one. I bought the BH110 with it and assumed, wrongly, that there would be a speaker cable in one of the 2 boxes. Nope. aside from that, fired it up once I got the cable and started noodling.
