Blue Microphones Kickball Dynamic Bass Drum Microphone

The Blue Mics Kickball Dynamic Microphone was designed to be punchy and detailed with a larger-than-life sound. The Kickball delivers an acoustic balance far superior to conventional dynamic microphones.
The back of the Kickball features a three-position bass frequency switch allowing three distinct low-frequency equalization curves. This circuit is based on a unique active RC filter that attenuates sub-bass (below 20Hz) frequencies and contours the low end without any noticeable phase distortion. Ideal for both stage and studio use, the Kickball can be used on virtually any instrument: kick drum, snare drum, tom toms, electric bass, bass cabinets, and anywhere else you need a rugged mic that sounds unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. And like any good kick drum microphone, the Kickball can withstand extremely high sound pressure levels that would send even the toughest condensers back to the showers.

Give the Kickball a listen and you’ll see how well-rounded it really is.

Quality: its platic, but holds up well on the road, just put it in a case or back in the box
Features: the sound is remarkable for so cheap, phantom power is cool
Ease of Use: you'll need to play with it a little to get the adjustments but pretty easy
Sound: not a betta 52, but not to shabby worth much more than you pay

Subject:Amazing bang for the buck
Quality: This mic feels solid, despite being, well, very plastic. This is the only thing that causes me to give a 4 instead of a 5 rating for quality- it has a plastic body, and though it feels plenty substantial, that gives me a little pause.
Features: The switch on the back- wow! If you want to use it on a bass cab, I'd use the neutral center setting. I switched it to the "+" setting while miking a kick drum- I was stunned that this level of quality sound with so much bottom was coming out of such an insanely inexpensive mic!
Ease of Use: Like any other mic, plug it in and there you go- with one small caveat of phantom power! (also why I gave a 4 instead of a 5 rating- you might have to do a little more planning of your sound set-up than with non-powered mics) If you aren't used to needing phantom power- you're going to need it for this mic, and if you are powering it from your mixers phantom power and are concerned about plugging in other dynamic mics that don't need phantom power- no worries, the phantom power won't effect your other mics- though line level inputs, like bass cabs, you'll want to DI and pad down rather than run direct to an XLR input on a phantom powered mixer.
Sound: I have never been more happy or excited about a $50 purchase for my PA! I made what I thought was a sideways step from a similarly priced CAD kick mic that had died after 2 years use, I was not prepared for the leap upward in improvement of the sound quality at all! I own one other Blue mic- the almost identical but USB and white Snowball, which I have for home use, and it, too, surpassed my expectations and has lasted well- so I took a chance and have so far been well rewarded with much better attack and bottom end.
