The BR1600CD has a Boss GT6 built in for incredible guitar effects from chorus to wah-wah (optional EV5) and amp modeling with mic placement. Not just a few weak effects for so called direct recording into a regular (wrong impedance!) input. The BR1600 even includes Roland's acclaimed mic modeling. The PCM drum sounds (add your own!) are second to none.

    Boss BR1600CD Features
    • 16-track (256 V-Track) digital studio with 40GB hard drive and CD-R/RW drive
    • Record all 8 XLR inputs simultaneously, ideal for tracking live performances
    • Powerful onboard effects including COSM modeling for guitar, bass and vocals
    • Vocal Tool Box with auto pitch correction and Harmony Sequence function
    • 16 individual Track EQs, plus 8 dedicated compressors
    • Mastering Tool Kit with multi-band compression for loud and punchy CDs
    • Create backing tracks quickly via independent Drum/Bass and Loop Phrase tracks
    • USB port for easy data exchange, plus V-LINK video control*
*V-LINK requires Edirol DV7-PR with software version 1.50 or higher.

The built-in drum sequencer insures you can do all your work without an external sequencer. Or load WAV/AIFF file loops to the dedicated loop tracks; they will instantly time lock to your tempo map. The BR includes a disk of great loop files, and the hard-drive already comes stock with a bunch of useful loops ready to load.

Overdub a bass part by plugging any MIDI keyboard into the BR1600's MIDI in, or play it from the front panel buttons. A cooler way to work is to enter your chord changes into the chord track and have the BR provide different bass parts for you to check out, keep, or build on.

The Chord Track also lets you instantly create realistic vocal harmonies by telling the BR what intervals you want. The Harmony Sequence function offers instant background harmonies. Of course, it also auto corrects your vocal pitches, a first in a digital audio workstation. So you have bass pattern/programmed and harmony auto creation!

Then you mixdown, staying in the linear digital domain using Roland's acclaimed Mastering Tool Kit from the VS recorders. Burn your CD. Save your projects to your computer via USB or archive them to the built in CD burner. Everything you need, from killer guitar tones, modern hi-fi drums, time corrected loops, bass sounds, background vocals and mastered CDs are available in this one incredible workstation.

Before you get locked into spec/price wars with other digital recorders, make sure you do not need to buy additional preamps, effects, guitar boxes, drum machines, samplers and modules - to match the firepower of the amazing Boss BR1600CD.

    Easy Multitrack Recording
The BR1600CD includes eight sweet-sounding XLR microphone inputs with phantom power. Use them to mic up a drum set or to record your entire band in a single pass. Recording eight tracks at once is easy, thanks to a new Multi-Track recording mode; just pick your inputs and start recording while taking advantage of powerful channel effects like a compressor, 3-band EQ and bass cut filter.

    Superb Guitar and Vocal Effects
Plug into the BR1600CD and you’ve got an arsenal of world-class BOSS effects ranging from reverb, delay and modulation to the latest modeling effects for guitar, bass and vocals. These include powerful overdrive/distortion and amp modeling identical to the BOSS GT6, acoustic and bass effects, plus mic modeling and a new Vocal Tool Box. This special algorithm includes auto pitch correction to keep you in tune, plus a Harmony Sequence function for creating realistic harmonies; no background singers needed!

    Build Your Own Backing Tracks
The BR1600CD now includes separate Drum, Bass and Loop Phrase tracks for creating complete backing arrangements. The Drum and Bass tracks come with high-quality PCM sounds. The Loop Phrase track can be loaded with user samples, or you can choose from a collection of loop phrases pre-loaded onto the hard disk. Using these tracks, you can build professional-quality arrangements for your guitar and vocals.

Complete Connectivity with USB and V-LINK
The BR1600CD’s USB port makes it easy to load WAV/AIFF files into a track, or export your audio for further editing in software or data backup. Want to integrate video with your music? Using V-LINK and an optional Edirol video editor, you can control and manipulate images using the BR1600CD’s buttons and knobs. It’s easy and you’ll love the results. With the BR1600CD, the sky’s the limit!

Built like a tank - okay just don't drop it and you should be fine. Roland/Boss provides good support anyway if something goes wrong.

    FEATURES:
Features are great - best platform there is for mobile recording of live audio events. Can't beat 1/4 inch jack/8 XLRs with phantom power all inputs with compresion EQ on every input! USB function is limited (one mono/stereo track at a time), but can be overcome by using WAV-MAKER-1600 software utility which is now available. Bass and drum machines are a definite plus. COSM amp models means you can build a whole gig around this thing and play live without a backing band or extra effects.

    EASE OF USE:
Very easy to use - Programming bass and drum tracks is a multi-step process, but you're going to have that with any bass/drum machine. Recording 1, 2, or 8 tracks couldn't be easier to setup is very easy and intuitive.

I think it's built just as well as any professional device, but keep it covered & definitely don't drop it or let anyone use it unsupervised.

    FEATURES:
Multi inputs, more tracks,XLR,Phantom power. One big,big plus is using my 8 track mixing board in addition to theBR-1600 as well as the vocal box.Dual headphone jacks an excellent addition. can't say enough about the versatility.I own the Boss DR-880 Drum machine which also has guitar effects, plus digital in/out works well to run the drum machine into for a crisp clean drum sound

    EASE OF USE:
I previously owned the BR-8 & did everything I could with that, so this has pretty much all the same functions plus a lot more useable features.

    VALUE:
A little pricey, but you get what you pay for which in my opinion is the best for professional/compact use. I've owned a 4 track reel to reel, Tascam 4 track tape recorder,Boss BR-8. I wish I had just bought this to begin w

This is a solid, practical unit-- great quality.

    FEATURES:
What doesn't the BR1600CD have that you'll need? Nothing but talent. From the digital multi-track flexibility, to the onboard bass, guitar, vocal and mixdown effects, to the intuitive interface, you'll love this cost-effective package.

    EASE OF USE:
This was not my first digital recording unit, so I have the experience to make a credible comparison. The BR1600CD is very easy to use, with a good manual and update, and a DVD (available separately) that will have you translating your ideas into recorded music in no time.

    VALUE:
Stands up alongside competing units very well, and in my opinion, it aces the "price for quality and value" test with ease.

    SOUND:
It's digital. If it isn't perfect, it's either your input equipment, your monitoring equipment, your room or it's you!

    Quality: It's Boss
Features: The only thing I could add would be motorized faders and a waveform editor.
Ease of Use: It is very easy to use the simpler features of the unit, it's just a matter of laying your tracks, mixing and burning your cd. However, the advanced features like programming drums or fixing vocals are very timeconsuming and tedious. But it is the same in any recording format format
Sound: It has all of the tones that Boss has for guitar and bass, with great vocals presets that work pretty well with keys
