Boss DR 3 Dr. Rhythm Drum Machine

Boss DR 3 Dr. Rhythm Drum Machine

The Boss DR-3 is an affordable compositional tool and flexible jamming partner that boasts some of BOSS’ best drum, percussion and bass sounds. The Boss DR-3 comes complete with new TSC (Total Sound Control) for easy sound editing - plus innovative new Rhythm Progressions featuring multiple variations for creating realistic drum tracks. The Boss DR-3 is the perfect tool for guitarists and songwriters who want to spend less time programming and more time making music. With onboard Rhythm Progressions, it’s easy to create a track by choosing from 100 Preset or 100 User styles. The DR-3’s eight panel buttons can then be used to switch between different sections of a song - Intro, Verse, Fill and Ending - while selecting from three different variations per section. The result is a more natural-sounding drum track that won’t get repetitive. Of course, the DR-3 offers velocity-sensitive pads and realtime/step recording for creating up to 100 User styles. And the sounds are some of the best BOSS has to offer. In total, there are 120 drum and percussion sounds and 12 bass sounds.

Tweaking a drum kit is now more intuitive than ever, thanks to BOSS’ new TSC (Total Sound Control) with Sound Shape function. With this feature any drum kit can be customized using 3-band compression, parametric EQ and a unique Ambience effect. The DR-3’s footswitch input is great for jamming, and makes it easy to control functions like Intro/Start, Ending/Stop, Verse change, Variation On/Off, Loop On/Off and more.

A choice of AC or battery power allows the DR-3 to be used at home or on the go. The DR-3 provides stereo RCA phone Line outputs, two additional 1/4-inch outputs (one of which can be used as a Headphone output) - plus a Footswitch input, MIDI In jack and AC inlet.

Boss DR-3 Features

  • BOSS’ most affordable drum machine for jamming or practice
  • Realistic drum, percussion and bass sounds with velocity-sensitive pads
  • New Rhythm Progressions with 3 variations each for Intro, Verse, Fill and Ending
  • New TSC with Sound Shape function and Ambience for professional drum sounds
  • 100 Preset Styles and 100 User styles programmable via realtime or step recording
  • Footswitch input for easy live control; runs on AC or battery power

New Rhythm Progressions for All-Out Jams
If you want to spend less time programming and more time jamming, you’ll love the DR-3’s Rhythm Progressions. Simply choose from 100 Preset styles and use the eight panel buttons to switch between different sections of your song. Up to three variations can be selected for each Intro, Verse, Fill and Ending, so your drum tracks won’t get monotonous.

Easy Sound Shaping and Footswitch Control
BOSS' new TSC (Total Sound Control) lets you change the overall sound of a drum kit with specialized effects. Use the Sound Shape function to adjust the 3-band compression and 3-band parametric EQ, or add some spaciousness with the Ambience effect. An optional footswitch can be used to control anything from Intro/Start and Ending/Stop to Verse change, Variation On/Off, Loop On/Off and more. Battery power lets you take the DR-3 just about anywhere.

Subject:really great value!
Quality: It's pretty solid. The outer casing is mostly plastic, so if you're gonna gig with it pack it in a nice gig bag or road case. I use it mostly in my home studio so its not a major issue
Features: Love the features. I'm just learning how to program it now, and haven't had a use for the footswitch yet.
Sound: pretty good really. A lot less cheesy than some of the other "vintage" drum machines out there. The Sound Shaping, TSC, and Ambience additions are nice - you can get some more realistic sounds out of it.
Overall: For the price, its a really good value.
Value: Yes
Appearance: Very nice. I kinda wish it was less plastic-y and more solidly constructeed.

QUALITY:
I think the machine is well constructed. Great value for the money. I suspect this unit will last as long as I need it to in my field. The only thing I would change is the bass pitch range. I know the more expensive units have that capability.

FEATURES:
Great features. The real time recording is great. And if I don't have the beat I can step record a custom beat.

EASE OF USE:
Too easy

VALUE:
Great value for the price. I did get a smokin deal. I would gladly pay the retail price or a little less.

SOUND:
The sound quality is awesome.

QUALITY:
Yes it's made of plastic. No I dont care about that. Alot of desktop type things are made of plastic. What would you posssibly be doing with a drum machine that you would want it made from metal anyway? That being said and the quality of the machine is fine. Buttons could have been a touch larger, so that when taping out a rhythm you couldn't miss the darn thing.

FEATURES:
Oh it's got plenty of features for a machine of this price. For it's price it's got enough features to easily justify paying 50 bucks more.

EASE OF USE:
And here's where Boss needs so very much help. It's not easy for the first timer to use at all. I bought this thing 3 years ago. It's manual is so dry and complex that I got frustrated and put it back in the box. I finally dug it out again 7 months ago and forced myself to learn to use it. Get some asprin, thats all Im saying. That being said once you learn how to use it, it's okay at best. It could be a
