  • Road-tough BOSS Metal construction
  • Perfect pre-gain pedal for adding or retaining Fender tone color
Boss & Fender Join Forces to Create Vintage Amp Pedals

Los Angeles, CA: January 18, 2007 - Fender's amps of the '50s and '60s are beloved and coveted by guitarists around the world. BOSS and Fender have teamed up to give guitarists unique Fender tone combined with BOSS technology, sound quality, and reliability. Thanks to BOSS’ technology and tone know-how, the FDR1 brings the snappy overdrive tone of the 65 Deluxe Reverb to a BOSS pedal format.

The FDR1 has the same controls as on the original Deluxe Reverb; Treble, Bass, Vibrato, and Reverb. Both pedals have an added Gain control as well.

This pedal also functions perfectly as a pre-gain pedal placed before an already overdriven vintage or modern amp to add the famous tone character of the Deluxe Reverb.

Fender's Ritchie Fliegler states:
We're constantly being asked… Of the many distortion devices out there, which one do we recommend to bring out the overdrive in these classic amps and keep that Fender tone intact. Frankly, they've all left us a bit cold in some way or another. After working with BOSS on this project, the answers are the FBM1 and FDR1.
These new pedals fall under the class of a new series of BOSS pedals called the Legend Series, products based on legendary products of the past.

By combining Fender tone with BOSS technology and sound quality, FDR1 65 Deluxe Reverb provides a road-ready stompbox that gets to the true core of guitar tone.

Decent but not quite a DR amp.

Typical excellent Boss Quality.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Don't know yet. Only had it a couple weeks.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I like the boost sound and the vibrato. The reverb can only be used minimally due to that weird sound attempting to mimick the spring 'bong'.

How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?

First ever Boss pedal.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Yes, it's designed pretty tough.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Only had it a month or so, but the construction seems solid enough.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
A decent pedal with great sound(if your rig clicks with it). I play through a Marshall Class 5. This pedal sounds muffled through this particular amp. My solution to this problem is to use an Eq. However, I use an optical compressor that I pretty much leave on all the time. This mix match of boxes made the FDR1 crystal clear and just rockin! I use very high end pedals and a LOT of them, so my opinion may differ from others.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The pedal responds pretty well to pick attack and the volume knob on the guitar. The controls could be set up better, though. I don't like the way you have to hold the footswitch down to change the tempo of the vibrato effect. It's pretty inconvenient.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Very dark through my Class 5. Like I said, the compressor clarified it beautifully!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
I like the textured tolex-like paint job! I want to buy the '59 Bassman version too!
