  • Level, Gain, Treble, Bass, Vibrato and Reverb controls
  • Road-tough BOSS Metal construction
  • Perfect pre-gain pedal for adding or retaining Fender tone color
Boss & Fender Join Forces to Create Vintage Amp Pedals

Los Angeles, CA: January 18, 2007 - Fender’s amps of the ’50s and ’60s are beloved and coveted by guitarists around the world. BOSS and Fender have teamed up to give guitarists unique Fender tone combined with BOSS technology, sound quality, and reliability. Thanks to BOSS’ technology and tone know-how, the FDR1 brings the snappy overdrive tone of the 65 Deluxe Reverb to a BOSS pedal format.

The FDR1 has the same controls as on the original Deluxe Reverb; Treble, Bass, Vibrato, and Reverb. Both pedals have an added Gain control as well.

This pedal also functions perfectly as a pre-gain pedal placed before an already overdriven vintage or modern amp to add the famous tone character of the Deluxe Reverb.

Fender’s Ritchie Fliegler states:
We’re constantly being asked… Of the many distortion devices out there, which one do we recommend to bring out the overdrive in these classic amps and keep that Fender tone intact. Frankly, they’ve all left us a bit cold in some way or another. After working with BOSS on this project, the answers are the FBM1 and FDR1.
These new pedals fall under the class of a new series of BOSS pedals called the Legend Series, products based on legendary products of the past.

By combining Fender tone with BOSS technology and sound quality, FDR1 65 Deluxe Reverb provides a road-ready stompbox that gets to the true core of guitar tone.

QUALITY:
Boss has made a reputation for durable, good sounding fx and I have always had great luck with their products.

FEATURES:
Wow... nice sounding over drive plus tone control, tremolo, and reverb. It's like several pedals all wrapped up in one!

EASE OF USE:
Easy as can be.

VALUE:
This pedal is a bit pricey until you think about it having Tremolo and Reverb built in. Not having to buy those two pedals makes the price fall right in line. I wish the Bassman version were a bit cheaper not having as many features.

SOUND:
I love the sound of this pedal. I'm unsure if it sounds exactly like a 65 Deluxe, but it sounds as good or better than I expected. Plenty of Fender vibe and Boss quality.

Built solid!

FEATURES:
Don't ever use tremelo and didn't need the reverb but they do sound superb. The extra gain is very, very good.

EASE OF USE:
I use this through my Super Reverb and it's right on the blackface deluxe as far as sound. Crunches the Super just enough to maintain the blusey sound I prefer. In other words...too easy to use.

VALUE:
Price is good. Don't need the reverb and trem but excellent quality in this pedal.

SOUND:
Outstanding!

I would have liked separate knobs. And maybe a little less plastic and more metal, like a Digitech pedal. Buttons instead of a pedal would also have made features like reverb more usable on the spot (during a solo). I can't imagine bending over at a gig to turn on reverb.

FEATURES:
All in all, I loved the overdrive this puppy puts out! It's amazing what Boss can do with amp modeling. I like the reverb, but it doesn't need to be turned up too high to sound usable. If I could add anything or redesign this pedal, I would make it a stompbox with buttons instead of a pedal. That way, I could make two buttons for Gain and Reverb.

EASE OF USE:
It's quite easy to use, but I didn't care for having a few knobs on each other. It makes it a little confusing at first, even if you read the manual. Eventually, you get used to finding reverb and gain.

VALUE:
I love how it sounds, but having a switch to turn on reverb and vib

Like all Boss pedal, built like a tank.

FEATURES:
Just like the real Blackface but with a gain control as well.

EASE OF USE:
As easy to use as any other Boss.

VALUE:
It's a bit pricey. I'm guessing the extra cost is for the Fender licencing.

SOUND:
Pretty great. You can play it clean or add some tube break up. Exactly what I was after. Very warm sounding on the bottom end and the reverb is excellent. I've never been a fan of vibrato (tremelo), but it's also there.
