CAD M179 Condenser MicrophoneThe CAD M179 Condenser Microphone combines a vintage capsule design with advanced electronics.
The M179 features the dual pattern version of the original Equitek E-300 capsule, an externally biased capsule with a gold sputtered 1.1-inch diaphragm. The pattern control knob on the M179 has a center detented Cardioid position. This allows you to quickly and consistently lock the mic in a hard Cardioid pattern. By turning the knob clockwise from the center, the pattern varies continuously from Cardioid, to Subcardioid, through Omnidirectional. By turning the knob counterclockwise from the center, the pattern varies continuously from Cardioid, to Hypercardioid through Bidirectional. This allows you to adjust to the optimal pattern needed for almost any recording or live situation.
The American Made M179 has a high speed, low noise operational amplifier head amp, coupled with a new discrete high efficiency power supply circuit. This results in incredibly low noise, low distortion and fast transient response. The M179 will even work with 24-volt phantom supplies! The M179 also features a non-capacitive 20 dB pad switch and an 80 Hz high-pass filter.
CAD M179 Features
- Continuously Variable Pattern with a Hard Cardioid center detent
- Large 1.1-inch Dual Diaphragm External Bias Condenser Capsule
- Gold Sputtered Diaphragms
- High SPL Capability (143 dB SPL with pad)
- Transformerless balanced output circuits
- 20 dB non capacitive pad
- 6dB/Octave @ 100Hz High-Pass filter
- Stainless steel internal pop/EMI filter
Typical FET (field effect transistor) condenser microphones use discrete designs. This means they use individual transistors that must be carefully matched for proper characteristics. Even with careful matching, discrete designs are inherently nonlinear. M Series microphones use a different approach. CAD does not use any discrete FETs. Instead, CAD uses advanced high speed OpAmps
(Operational Amplifiers). These OpAmps are individually laser trimmed for optimum performance and have very high gain. This allows a large amount of negative feedback to be used to significantly reduce any non-linearity. CAD has also integrated a new discrete high efficiency power supply circuit allowing greater dynamic range and lower self noise. The bottom line is we believe you will find the M179 to have a remarkably open and clean sound that will enhance any project.

QUALITY: Seems extrememly well made. I've used it for the past 6 months with no problems.
FEATURES: I think the constant variable pattern is a great feature, you can dial in in between patterns as opposed to preset patterns thus giving you a wider range of ambient sound.
EASE OF USE: It's a mic, set it on the stand, connect the cable, turn the preammp on, phantom power point it at the source where it sounds good, adjust the pattern if you'd like...record.
VALUE: I think this mic competes with mics costing 4 times as much.
SOUND: It has a nice smooth sounds brite but not harsh, works great on female vocals over heads etc..
STYLE: noise, jazz, rock, punk
MUSIC EXPERIENCE: i play music and record.
OVERALL: I really enjoy using this mic. It's a workhorse and has yet to fail me.

QUALITY: THis mic is well made and will last for many years to come. The only down side is it doesn't come with a spider mount.
FEATURES: The dial patterns are this mics great asset
EASE OF USE: It's easy to use you just find the settings that fit your project.
VALUE: It is worth every penny and I would bay twice as much for it. It rates right up there with my $1200 dollar mics. I plan on buying another one..
SOUND: This is the best mic I have heard for vocals bringing out nice warm rich tones that other mics can't produce.
STYLE: country, pop, rock
MUSIC EXPERIENCE: musician / recording engineer
OVERALL: Like I said I plan on buying another one of these mics I was blown away buy it's quality and beautiful vocals it produced. This is one of those mics you will want to use all the time and keep going back to..

QUALITY: I own a pair and they sound very good for the money. ******Make sure you are supplying enough phantom power amperege. These mics require almost double the power required by most other mics. Minimum Requirements are 24, 48 Volt Phantom Power capable of delivering at least 8 mA. Many budget mic pre's don't put out that kind of juice. An external phantom supply might be wise -Rolls and Stewart make nice ones for reasonable money.
Well built. Reliable. Comes in nice case.
FEATURES: -20dB pad, 80Hz hi-pass, infinitely variable pattern
EASE OF USE: It's a mic. Plug it in. Turn on phontom. Record.
VALUE: Great Value. I purchased them from another online store -BSW-for the same price with the shockmount included.
SOUND: I have used this mic on vocals (M&F), acoustic gtr, gtr amp, drum kit/kick drum. Always get something useable. |
