Subject:Much Better Than a Marshall MG, That's for Sure!
Quality: I just recently got this used for the sum of $200.00, so I guess you could say that I got a pretty good deal. I had a Crate GX-65 combo which was over 12 years old that I had been using for the last couple of years before I got this, and that had no flaws at all, so to be honest, I think that Crates in general, are very well made amps and will last a lifetime.
Reliability: I've only had this for about 3 months now and it's held up very well. I haven't gigged with it yet, but considering that it's rated at 120 watts, I don't think I'll have to worry about miking this beast when I do get back into a band situation.
Overall: Considering what I paid for it, I would say I got a pretty good deal. Crates in my opinion, have gotten a very bad reputation from a lot of players who have probably never even taken the time to go out and try one. This would put any of the Marshall MG'S or Fender's FM series of amps to shame.
Playability and Feel: It weighs in at 50 lbs so it is heavy. Thank god it came with a set of detachable casters. The controls are located up front for easy access, although the effects control for the chorus settings can be difficult to adjust at times.
Tone: I use the effects ,mainly the chorus, for the clean channel which produces a nice shimmering, Fender like tone which is loud and crystal clear, and does not distort the louder you turn up the volume. Using the effects on the OD channel adds a little bit of a snap to the tone, but on the High Gain channel, they sound very muddy, so when I'm using that channel, I don't even bother with the effects at all. The High Gain Channel has to be my favorite part of this amp, especially with the Shape knob. I can get a myriad of tones ranging from Angus Young to fullout Thrash Metal with my Fender Strat. The only drawback is the feedback but that's nothing that a good noisegate pedal can't handle.
Finish: It looks black, whaddya think?
Action: Huh?

Subject:Good for the money
Quality: I have long been a fan of Crates, and As a professional musician, I need a good amp I can rely on. This amp is my practice amp, and I have used it on smaller gigs as well.
Reliability: I think the guy who had trouble with his electronics should have returned the unit. It has a full 5 year warranty. Even with top of the line Amps , you can occasionally find defects. But this amp has such great tone, and a good solid warranty...They would no doubt replace a defective model without question.
Overall: It's good for the money. It's a mid to lower end amplifier, great for practice or small gigs..dependable and reliable with lots of great effects and features. It's a good deal for the money.
Playability and Feel: It Is a great little amp.
Tone: The clean is crisp, the over drive is good, not ove the top. Suggestion to begiiners or intermediate players..if you cannot get the tone you want from the gain on this amp, I would suggest buying a distortion or over drive pedal that gives you what you want to hear, and run it through the clean side of this amp..you will be amazed at the quality and clarity you get as a result..Good players are not going to depend soley on the built in effects on this amp any way, but most of them sound good enough that you could.
Finish: Tough and rugged...It has traveled many a mile on the back of our bus in our equiptment trailer, and it still looks good as new right our of the box.
Action: The amplifier fired up and did exactly what it was supposed to right out of the box.
