Crown CM311A Headset Microphone

The Crown CM311A Headset Microphone provides pro sound quality & performance and a very comfortable, secure fit making it one of the most popular headsets available.
Designed to sound every bit as crisp, full and rich as a great hand-held mic, the CM311A also rejects sounds coming from the back of the mic so it greatly reduces feedback & bleed from unwanted sources. Distortion free sound quality, light weight (2.1oz.) and dual power capability (9V battery or phantom power) make the CM311A the professional choice. Specs include 50Hz - 17kHz frequency response, 148dB SPL.

The CM311A offers cardioid performance in a comfortable headworn package. The CM311A is designed to meet the most demanding touring sound applications, with its electret condenser capsule providing full, clear and distortion-free sound. Gain-before-feedback and isolation are exceptional. Lightweight, rugged and comfortable, the headband and mic boom are adjustable to any vocalist. CM311A includes battery/phantom powered belt pack.

Overall: Great Mic. Loud without feedback. Performing 4 or 5 nights a week it is the best live mic I have ever used.

The screw clamp could be more firm. Once the paint wears off the boom, the screw can be difficult to tighten securely. I've owned 3 and about to buy my fourth. The wire failed on each one. Where the cord seperates from the frame, it is susceptible to breakage due to movement back and forth. Even with these issues...I'm buying another one...they're that good.

FEATURES:
The element is the most supperior I've found...though a little "mid-y" The adjustment is good and placement of the mic works well for pickup vs feedback. I wish the element could be manufactured with some of the mid frequencies cut.

EASE OF USE:
Depending on your headsize, the adjustments may not be enough. In some cases, actual framework must be cut and reshaped for proper fitment.

VALUE:
I feel that the MSRP is a little spendy, but a better deal can usually be found online. For the online price, the value is good.

Subject:Why Britney Spears made a good choice with this mic
Quality: I just replaced mine after seven years with only one breakdown. Caveat, the replacement (a blem model purchased from American Music Supply) failed after one week of use. American Music Supply replaced it very conveniently with a non-blem model.
Features: The mic is pretty comfortable and easy to adjust. It has a cough button. A very nice feature. I play the keyboard professionally, and I like to be able to look down at the display on my keyboard and to look left and right at the audience without worrying about taking my mouth off the mic. That's where this mic comes in
Ease of Use: You just turn it on and sing. Couldn't be any easier.
Sound: This mic gets a fantastic signal for a headset. I have heard audio of this mic next to the Sure SM58, and it sounds every bit as crystal clear. It is good enough for recordings and definitely good enough for live use. I have recorded my voice with this mic, and I am very happy with the results.

I bought mine in 1993.....sent it back for repair in 95 under warranty (the cable from the mic boom got all noisy and the belt clip broke)....shortly thereafter the clip broke again so I had to make my own (which has survived to this day). Withtin a couple of years the windscreen ring cracked and the cable started getting noisy again so I did a series of band-aid repairs...tape, nylon ties...to stabilize the boom cord. I was simply working too much to be able to send it back in. Recently I got a break and sent it back to Crown factory service. I sent it Sept 28....they received it Oct 6, started repair on Oct 13 and I heard nothing until Nov 1, at which point they finally called me and said they wouldn't repair it but rather offered me an exchange. They would send me a brand new CM 311A for the 'reduced' price of $274......that's right, $274!!! I was stunned and said that was simply ridiculous since it was available at AMS for $199. No matter, they wouldn't b
"AMS is a really well organized musical instrument website. What really made me buy from this site is the Easy Payment Plan they have. This is an extremely useful option, especially for music hobbyist like me that can't afford to spend for top name brands. The Easy Payment Plan made it possible for people to actually get those pro gear they have been dreaming about."
