Product Description

DAddario EXP10 Extra Light Coated 8020 Bronze Acoustic Strings

EXP Coated 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings are DAddario’s brightest sounding coated strings and provide longer life and increased durability. Here is how it works: An ultra-fine layer of EXP Coating is bonded to the 80/20 bronze wrap wire, which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. And since the EXP Coating is cross-linked to the wrap wire prior to winding, the strings retain their natural round wound feel, and keep their new string tone three to four times longer than traditional guitar strings.

EXP Means Extended Play!
Imagine putting on a set of new strings and having them sound fresh and bright 3 to 4 times longer than traditional strings. Well, it’s now a reality with DAddario EXP Coated strings. Available in a wide variety of alloys and gauges, EXPs not only offer extended life, but deliver the exceptional tone you’ve come to expect from DAddario. Whether you’re the casual player who doesn’t change strings often, an avid collector who owns several guitars, or a working player who changes strings for every gig, EXP strings are perfect for you.

What makes EXP strings different?
DAddario reinvented the way extended play strings are made. They apply an ultra-fine EXP corrosion-resistant coating to the wrap wire BEFORE it’s wound onto the core. The EXP Coating protects your strings from premature corrosion and wear that can sap the life out of your sound. Since the EXP Coating is so fine, it’s virtually undetectable and allows strings to maintain their natural, round wound feel. Finally, a string that delivers it all: great tone, natural feel, and longer life!

What is your overall opinion of this product?
I've been experimenting wiht different coated strings since gettng my Taylor 310ce last year. Tried Elixers a couple of times and not impressed - find the tone (right out of the package) to be dull. Martin Lifespans were much brighter but I had constant breakage issues - may have been old stock I picked up on sale. SO I thought I'd give EXPs a shot. Much brighter than the Elixers to start out with, but took a little more play to 'break them in' - where they would hold their tuning. But it only took me a little while to realize the 'coating' is minimal on these: string squeek is back, which I have never had with the Martins or Elixers (or Cleartones I used before). Elimination of string squeek is hte principle reason I use coated strings, so these do not pass the test.
