    Product Description

Both a beauty and a beast, the Bowery (SD-500) is a gem from master-luthier John D’Angelico’s humble beginnings in the lower east side of Manhattan. This D’Angelico flagship acoustic offers a single-cutaway dreadnought with a solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides project the Bowery’s massive roar. A slim C-shaped neck and rosewood fingerboard make for great comfort. And with the sleek additions of FU-Tone brass bridge pins, a tortoise pickguard and block mother-of-pearl inlays, the Bowery emerges as a classic, and the premier instrument in D’Angelico’s new acoustic series.

    Poor quality control
    Product Rating
What is your opinion of this product?
I was really looking forward to receiving this guitar. I got a great price on it and a $100 rebate to boot. I have played a few Dangelico electric guitars and they were made in Korea and we're good quality instruments. I was very disappointed when I received the Bowery. First of all it is made in Indonesia. The quality control just isn't the same as in Korea. There was something rattling around inside the body. The plastic trim piece at the bottom around the input is loose. The guitar is beautiful to look at but I expected a better instrument for 1k. I purchased an epiphone master built for $600 instead. $400 less and much better quality.

    What a beautiful guitar
What is your opinion of this product?
This is a great value at the price tag it comes with. Not only do you get a custom fit De'Angelico case, you also get solid wood back and sides. Pictures just don't do this guitar justice. The Gibson style fretboard blocks are beautiful, but the headstock is just so classy looking. You can see the woodgrain through the clearcoat creating a ripple effect almost when light hits it. As a carpenter myself, it reminds me of vintage furniture. The guitar sounds great unplugged, with lots of bass but not boomy and overpowering. I play fingerstyle unplugged and it still projects. The Fishman INK-4 preamp allows lots of EQ room. You can even cut the "Brilliance" knob to decrease fingernoise and make the guitar sound warmer plugged in. I'm a big fan of Fishman, so I also run the guitar into the Fishman Aura Spectrum DI Imaging pedal. Then I send my signal into a TC-Helicon Voicelive 3 where it gets EQ'ed a third time with the TC BodyRez EQ. Add reverb and delay to taste and play!

    D'Angelico SD500 Bowery
What is your opinion of this product?
I'm impressed with the quality of the Bowery. The bindings are perfectly fitted and the mother of pearl is seamless. The action is very good so, I don't think I'll need any additional setup. Initially I was concerned with the brass bridge pins, thinking the treble would be jangly. Not so! In fact this is a very well balanced player. The bass is throaty, the mids are balanced and the treble is bright without being overpowering. The first visual impression is striking. I love the art deco theme, the gold hardware and the cherry sunburst sets the canvas that pulls it all together. The finish is flawless and gorgeous. It makes my other acoustics look like old mud hens. I compared the Bowery against my 32 year old Martin D-28 and my Gibson Singer/Songwriter. The SD500 actually sounded better than the Martin. The Gibson sounded a little better but the Bowery had more sustain and the SD500 is $1600.00 cheaper than the Gibson. What a deal! Buy it and impress all the Martin pickers.
