Its warm, analog/tube sound and adjustable hi-cut will give you the thick, mellow delays you're looking for. It's got the '60s -era smooth delay sound absolutely nailed and it's studio-quiet. All Danelectro pedals are built out of a metal chassis with sturdy controls and rugged switches. The Dan-Echo not only sounds like a cool, vintage effect but it completely looks the part. I do not know how the Danelectro folks were able to build this fabulous delay, in an analogue style for the price they have maintained over the past few years! It has served me well for more the 10 years without a single glitch. Totally silent --- on or off. Built like a rock designed by NASA! Sound: Beautiful, warm. Does not, however, get in the way of heavy distortion... even metal. "Hi/ Lo switch" is fabulous for getting just the right tone cut for the appropriate tone for your specific need at the time. It opens a whole new range of sounds and options for the player.... never failed; however, it must be selected before the song unless you have time to reach down and switch it.(That has never been a problem for me.) Reliability: Never failed. Anytime I need delay, there are the digitals I own and the Dan Echo. It is fun, depending on the song, to mix the two sounds w/ varying degrees of presence in the mix. Would not trade it for anything @ present. Glad she is still out there! Tough, solidly built. Overall: Excellent, warm analogue response whether clean or distorted.... Playability and Feel: Easy. So easy and "feel specific". Tone: You choose: bright or warm. Finish: Lavender. Flat. Helps it stand out on the floorboard. (Though purple is my favourite colour, My Boss FL-3 sits on the sidelines in deference to my Ibanez FL-99. So, those who know me, incl. my wife and daughter, KNOW colour did not play a part in my selection of the Dan Echo.) My other delays are DigiTech x 3 (digital and Line 6, modelled.
