Extremely Clean, Accurate and Transparent Control of EQ
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
DBX is known for well made products. I picked this particular product because it was DBX and it was digitial for a tighter control and lower noise floor.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
1) The accuracy of the frequency control. Extremely tight and transparent. 2) Very low noise floor - unlike analog eqs. 3) The VU leds for tracking input/output to get a visual perspective of levels. 4) The eq defeat button to take the eq in and out of the signal path for relative reference to what the eq is doing to the mix.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
The DBX iEQ31 was extrememly easy to install and setup. I used a 31 band frequency analyzer to dial in the frequency response of my recording monitor speakers. The monitors have fatigued and the response between the two is different. I found the iEQ31 extrememly accurate and "tight". It did not take much movement to the sliders to affect the particular frequency being adjusted. What really struck me is how "tight" the eq was - movement in one frequency did not have much affect on neighboring frequencies. Most often with an analog eq, moving one frequency slider would affect the neighboring frequencies and you would have to find a level balance between them to achieve a flat balanced sound. However, with the digitial iEQ31 - it was much easier to affect only the frequencies out of balance with little affect to the neightboring frequencies. Perfect for fine-tuning critical monitoring speakers.
Sound
How is the tone?
Extremely transparent - perfect for fine-tuning monitor response. You can hear the difference in the response - without hearing any additional "color" from the iE31. Perfect!
