How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
At 8.5 lbs its very well balanced on the shoulders. Comfortable to play either standing or sitting. The neck is a fast playing C type, not too chunky or too thin, just right for me. 1.5" @ the nut. Very Powerfull bass. Controls: Vol/Treb/Bass & Mids very easy to operate.

Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
You can dial in a wide variety of tones: warm bassy all the way to bright piano like treble. Pick up is positioned in the sweetspot, and has great response when plucked with either a pick or bare fingers

Great Hillsboro bass from Dean
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Import, made in Korea (BTW: Excellent craftmanship, QC & great attention paid to detail), built to last a long time, so very dependable. Took it along as a back up bass to a large venue gig, ended up playing it the entire 2.5hr gig without switching to my prefered bass (fender P bass). No hardcase came, or even a gigbag included with the bass, contacted Dean Guitars as to what they recommend, and they advised me it fits inside their case model # DHS EB, and the same case is shared with their "Edge" bass series)

Powerful output!...be careful to lower you amp's gain before pluggin it... can cut thru any mix. Very quiet bass for active, no crackling at the controls or output jack. Wide variety of tones once you get accustomed to dialing in tones
