Key Differences Between Mbox 2 and Mbox 2 Mini
- Mic Preamps: Mbox 2 has two mic preamps; Mbox 2 Mini has one.
- Simultaneous I/O: Mbox 2 supports up to four simultaneous inputs when using the S/PDIF digital I/O in addition to the analog inputs; Mbox 2 Mini supports two simultaneous channels of I/O.
- MIDI Ports: Mbox 2 has MIDI I/O ports (16 channels in/16 channels out); Mbox 2 Mini does not have MIDI I/O ports. However, Pro Tools LE software provides full MIDI capabilities, so Mbox 2 Mini owners can still record MIDI by using a separate MIDI interface or a keyboard/controller with a built-in MIDI interface. You can also sequence MIDI in Pro Tools LE via the integrated Step Sequencer or by simply drawing in notes.
- S/PDIF Digital I/O: Mbox 2 has S/PDIF digital I/O ports supporting two simultaneous channels of digital I/O; Mbox 2 Mini does not have digital I/O ports.
