Subject:Digitech VL3D vocalist my experience with digitech ola and new
Quality: As I said earlier, I have had good success in the past with digitech. If they still manufacture to the same standards all should be fine.
Features: Tracks the instrument (guitar in my case) for the harmony and can be triggered by midi as well, which I used many years ago on a older vocalist , forgot model. I wish there had been balanced XLR out puts on the unit as well, Would have been willing to pay for that feature.
Ease of Use: Almost plug and play. Manual good when compared to many other companies. Out of box to first song in 20 minutes. I actually use a channel direct out from the mixer at the t.r.s. insert point by using a Hosa doc-106 cable and send the signal to the line in on the vocalist. Then use the vocalist line outs back to the mixer and using a sub out from the vocalist channels I send the back up to a seperate set of powered speakers setting behind and to the side of the lead vocals. Works well. Currently use the guitar to trigger the harmony but will move to midi as I use to use in the older days.
Sound: I think the sound is fine . It helps to EQ the tone for the location you are playing. Mix in just enough to thicken your vocals using all the natural effect < reverb, delay, etc. that the room has to offer. This equipment is supposed to enhance your vocals and it will if used correctly.
Reliability: Just purchased this unit, had for about three weeks now. BUT I have used digitech products for very long periods of time. The older vocalist I used abiut 15 years or so ago was used 2 to 3 times a week for about 6 or 7 years as well as two gps21 guitar rack mount units and a ips 33 harmonizer. All ran fine all those years with no problems. When I shut down the band I sold most of the electronic equipment to other griups so I don't know how long it actually lasted. So recently when I decided to re-enter the music scene I decided to go back to the manufactors who severved me well in the past, Digitech being on of them.
Overall: Sound quality very good for the price. When mixed in sparingly with one or two live vocals it really thickens the sound.Just remember you can insert too much of anything into your mix and make it sound very unnatural. A little of any effect that is used to enhance your sound goes a long way..
