DigiTech Vocalist Live 2 Harmony Processor

The Digitech Vocalist Live 2 has taken the world by storm!
A low priced solution for vocalists looking to get accurate vocal harmony on stage or in the studio. The Vocalist Live uses guitar chord analysis to build the harmonic structure (not the main vocal) so it is much simpler to use than other harmony processors. The Vocalist Live 2 tracks what chords are being played and creates a chord in that key. Genius!

The Vocalist Live 2 has an integrated mixer as well - just plug your vocal mic and guitar into the inputs and your vocal PA and guitar amp to the outputs. Simple. Easy stomp box configuration activates or deactivates the harmony processor. Same goes for the built in digital effects. An unbelievable amount of bang for your buck.

A surprising number of songs fool other harmonizers because these songs just don’t work with a single key/scale setting. In fact, any song that has the same note sung over two different chords (for example, a C sung in the melody over a C maj / F maj chord sequence) is going to confound conventional harmonizers.

Vocalist Live uses breakthrough musIQ technology to directly analyze the output of any electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar (no special MIDI guitars or hex-outputs needed). Then it generates the correct vocal harmony. For example, if you’re singing an A over the chords that are generally found in the key of G, Vocalist will harmonize with a C. But, if you then play an A major, Vocalist will shift to the C#...because like any good harmony singer, it listens to the guitar!
Hook Up Diagram

With musIQ, forget about the technology – just sing and play! Skip complicated programming and having to analyze each song chord-by-chord; just…
  • Plug in your microphone and guitar;
  • Pick a 3rd or 5th-above or below harmony preset;
  • Sing and play — when you want harmony, just step on the footswitch!
Patent-pending musIQ technology combines new Note Detection algorithms with state-of-the-art Harmony Generation. The Note Detection section analyzes complex guitar waveforms and determines which notes in each chord are critical to accurate harmony. This information is then fed to an advanced harmony engine that creates harmonies consistent with both the singer’s melody and the underlying guitar accompaniment.

This totally new, musically-intelligent hybrid of traditional chordal and scalic harmony modes means that Vocalist Live musIQ harmonies stay true to not only the overall key and song scale, but also localized variations due to chords that aren’t part of the global key. You’ve never heard anything like it!

    Quality: Very well made unit. Should withstand gigging for many years. Nice weight stays put on the floor. Pedals are a good size and easy to hit. Connections seem solid and convenient.
    Features: Well lit leds are easy to see on a dim stage. The compressor and reverb are excellent - no rack effects needed! The enhance feature dials in very useful EQ settings making setup a breeze. I only wish you could vary the character of the harmony voices, like change them to female, male, etc.
    Ease of Use: I used an Akai unit before this, which needed to be programmed for every song. While it sounded good, it wasn't nearly as easy to setup and use as the Digitech. Also, it lacked the built in EQ and reverb, and provided only one harmony part. If you've used any processor like this before, it takes only a couple minutes to understand the features and dial in a very good harmony. Couldn't be any easier.
    Sound: Very natural sounding. So much so that it takes a little practice singing if you're not used to singing with harmonies. It's nice to switch from 3rd and 5th harmony to unison to change things up, and suit certain songs. The pitch correction is spot on if you're off just a bit. After very short practice with the unit, you can sound very professional, and on recordings, you would swear you had hired backup singers.
    Reliability: I've been playing for over 40 years now and used MANY different effects pedals. Digitech has always been reliable for me with great sounding pedals that withstand use on the road. I've never had a Digitech product fail!
    Overall: As a solo act, I'm always looking for something to enhance my performances (aren't we all!). This unit works exceptionally well, sounds very "human" and not at all electronic. The real bonus is your backup singers are always on time for rehearsal and don't drink all your beer! You can't go wrong with Digitech products, and you can't go wrong with the Vocalist Live 2.

    Subject:Great Harmony Processor for the money.
    Quality: It is very well made. Very sturdy.
    Features: The reverb is a nice add-on but would have liked to have seen a harmony hold switch. Overall features are nice.
    Ease of Use: Very easy to use. Just plug step and play.
    Sound: Great for live sound. Wouldnt recommend for studio use though because in a high detail environment the processor can sound alittle electronic.
    Reliability: Hasnt failed me yet.
    Overall: I would recommend this product for any band that needs backup vocals without having to shell out another percentage of show cash.

    Quality: The quality is great.Very durable and dependable, does what I expected
    Features: I love the mic.preamp, it lets me dial in the sound I need without the soundman's help
    Ease of Use: I am a very busy musician/ pastor/father and simplicity is great for me. I took the unit out of the box about 5 mins. before a practice session and had it going in plenty of time for the bands arrival, I love it.
    Sound: it sounds great.
    Reliability: New unit don't know yet
    Overall: Overall this unit has proven to be what we expected, I use it with my praise band at church and it has helped our praise team become more like a chior. Great unit, no regrets at all.
