DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 Vocal Harmony Processor Pedal

The Digitech Vocalist Live 4 is THE low-priced solution for vocalists looking to get accurate vocal harmony on stage or in the studio.
The Vocalist Live uses guitar chord analysis to build the harmony structure, not the main vocal, so it is much simpler to use. It tracks what chords are being played and creates a harmony chord in that key. Genius!!

The VL4 also has an integrated mixer. Just plug your vocal mic and guitar into the inputs and plug your PA and guitar amp to the outputs. Simple as that. Easy stomp-box operation activates or deactivates the harmony processor. Same goes for the built in digital effects- stomp on/stomp off. An unbelievable amount of Bang for your Buck.

A surprising number of songs fool other harmonizers because these songs just do not work with a single key/scale setting. In fact, any song that has the same note sung over two different chords (for example, a C sung in the melody over a C maj / F maj chord sequence) is going to confound conventional harmonizers.

Vocalist Live uses breakthrough musIQ technology to directly analyze the output of any electric or pre-amplified acoustic guitar (no special MIDI guitars or hex-outputs needed). Then it generates the correct vocal harmony. For example, if you are singing an A over the chords that are generally found in the key of G, Vocalist will harmonize with a C. But, if you then play an A major, Vocalist will shift to the C#...because like any good harmony singer, it listens to the guitar!

With musIQ, forget about the technology, just sing and play! Skip complicated programming and having to analyze each song chord-by-chord; just follow these steps.

  • Plug in your microphone and guitar;
  • Pick a 3rd or 5th-above or below harmony preset;
  • Sing and play and when you want harmony, just step on the footswitch!
Patent-pending musIQ technology combines new Note Detection algorithms with state-of-the-art Harmony Generation. The Note Detection section analyzes complex guitar waveforms and determines which notes in each chord are critical to accurate harmony. This information is then fed to an advanced harmony engine that creates harmonies consistent with both the singer’s melody and the underlying guitar accompaniment.

This totally new, musically-intelligent hybrid of traditional chordal and scalic harmony modes means that Vocalist Live musIQ harmonies stay true to not only the overall key and song scale, but also localized variations due to chords that are not part of the global key. You have never heard anything like it!

    Subject:Band in a box
    Quality: It looks like its built tough enough, but I keep it in a protective case when not in use.
    Features: The effects are really helpful, I used them for an over the top/momentary effect. The guitar plug in is amazing, as I remember the original Vocalists were really a pain to program every chord change. Now it's done for you.
    Ease of Use: At first it looked a little difficult, but after scanning through the manual it was amazingly fast to program. It programs like the old Digitech floor guitar effects. I've even reprogramed it on stage during a song.
    Sound: Once again the sound is really surprising. Far better than I would have expected from my experiences with the old Vocalist. The engineers at Digitech have obviously been doing their homework.
    Reliability: I haven't owned this unit for very long, but keep it stored away when I'm not using it. Time will tell I guess.
    Overall: Overall I was really impressed with how far Digitech has progressed when it come to the harmonies. They used to sound so processed and automated. Not anymore. People have told me that the vocals in the band have really improved, HA.

    Quality: n/a
    Features: Plug n Play-ability
    Ease of Use: As it states in the ad, it is very much plug n play - if you want to customize, it takes a bit more reading and fooling with but if you're patient, its not hard. Go to youtube and look at the tutorials for set ups - quicker and cuts through the muck!
    Sound: The harmonies are very real sounding
    Reliability: n/a - have only had it a couple of weeks
    Overall: For the price ( I bought a "B" stock - MUCH cheaper than list! ) it is a fair deal - depends on your application.
