Product Description

The Epiphone Ultra 339 Semi Hollow Electric Guitar mixes the power of Epiphone's Ultra III electronics with a legendary ES style guitar. Packed with cutting edge technology, the Ultra 339 guitar features 2 pickup systems. A modern guitar with that classic semi-hollow tone and sustain, the Epiphone Ultra 339 gives you a powerful Humbucker driven rock crunch as well as shimmering acoustic like tones and everything in between. If you want a versatile professional guitar designed for live performance or studio and capable of both semi-hollow growl and real acoustic like tones, the Epiphone Ultra 339 Electric Guitar is it!

Great Tone Woods and Hardware
The Epiphone Ultra 339 features a laminated Maple body with solid center block, a glued-in Mahogany neck with classic Mortise and Tenon neck joint, and a comfortable SlimTaper neck profile and Rosewood fingerboard.

Two Great Pickup Systems in One Guitar
At the heart of the Epiphone Ultra 339 are two pickup systems. Powering the first are Epiphone's ProBucker Humbucking pickups patterned after Gibson's famous BurstBuckers. With authentic 18% nickel silver base and cover, Elektrisola wire, accurate bobbins, slugs and screws and sand casted Alnico-II magnets, these pickups replicate that classic Patent Applied For airy tone that defined rock and roll. The second system features Shadow Germany's patented NanoMag pickup embedded discretely at the end of the fingerboard. Featuring three samarium cobalt magnets, an air coil, and active electronics, this low impedance pickup captures subtle body acoustics and string harmonics.

One Of a Kind Built in Electronics
Built discretely into the bridge pickup mounting ring is a full function, chromatic tuner. Push it's ON/OFF button and sound is immediately muted when the tuner activated. Eleven color coded LED's identify the note as well as whether it's sharp, flat or in tune. To allow quick and seamless changes between each pickup system, the Ultra III's NanoMag Volume knob now doubles as an A/B switch. Just push it in and quickly toggle between Magnetic, NanoMag or both pickup systems with no delay and no pop. Two additional LED's on the pickup mounting ring provide a visual indicator of which pickup system is active.

Hook Up Directly To Your Computer
The Epiphone Ultra 339 semi hollow  features three different outputs. By using the standard 1/4 inch MONO output, both the Humbuckers and NanoMag are mixed into one signal. When you plug another 1/4 inch cable into the Ultra 339's STEREO output, the Humbuckers are routed through one cable and the NanaMag the other. In this way, you can send the Humbuckers to your favorite guitar amp and the NanoMag to the PA or an acoustic guitar amp. Using the A/B switch, you can now change on the fly between the two outputs. The third output is USB. Using a USB cable, you can plug directly into your computer and use guitar applications such as Native Instruments GuitarRig 4LE to play your guitar through a variety of simulated amplifiers and effects and listen through your computer speakers or headphones. GuitarRig also features a recorder, a metronome, a tuner and more.

Classic Epiphone Hardware
Like most Epiphones, the Ultra 339 semi hollow electric guitar is also equipped with Epiphone's patent applied for LockTone locking tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for increased sustain and string changing ease as well as quality Grover 16:1 machine heads for tuning accuracy and stability.

Good Looks & Nice Feel Brought Down by Intonation & Sound Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
1. The truss rod was found dis connected by my guitar tech - it was just sitting in there loose, rattling around. 2. It had a cheap plastic nut which I replaced with bone. 3. The intonation is apparently unfixable (my tech took 2 seperate stabs at it). I bought it to play jazz so I play a lot of octave notes for which I constantly have to compensate for in order to play in tune. Ridiculous. My tuner reveals the low notes (particularly on the 5th & 6th string) are way off. Want to use a capo? It's a tuning nightmare.
Your general opinion of this product.
I have a very low opinion of this Epiphone. They have been making guitars for a zillion years and I figured it would be a no-brainer to order one sight-unseen. (How's that move to Korea working out? I say not good.)However, after spending about $100 to try to right all the wrongs, I'm still not happy with the intonation. My tech feels I bought a lemon.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Given the nano-mag pickup configuration and the fact it is a semi-hollow body, I am disappointed with the sound. I'm not experiencing that beautiful warmth I expected with this type of guitar. I have played DOTs that sound much warmer. Also, the low strings are way too bassy and distort my Deluxe Reverb even with EQ compensations. I have tried everything reasonable to remedy this problem to no avail. I did get some positive feedback once when I ran it stereo (electric thru my Deluxe Reverb and the nano mag through my acoustic amp). Unfortunately, I never heard the the final house mix.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I bought this as a "scratch & dent". However, there were no scratches and the paint and finish is flawless. Apparently, all the B-stock problems are in the play-ability. It's a very nice looking guitar.
