"Incredible Archtop Electric Guitar"
General
Your general opinion of this product.
The Epiphone Sheraton 2 is such a beautiful instrument to own. I believe Epiphone puts extra attention into this guitar as it is the "Flagship" of their product line. Forget where this guitar is manufactured because a quality guitar is a quality guitar. It looks outstanding and has an awesome tone. AMS also offers a deal if you purchase the guitar and matching Epiphone Hard Shell Case which is also very well made.

Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
The Epiphone Sheraton 2 is built to perfection. I cannot find one single flaw anywhere on this guitar. I tuned the guitar one time when it arrived and have not had to tune it for days. Once in a while (applies to most guitars) I may need to check the G or B string after serious string bends. The finish is spot on, the hardware is top notch, and the 3-way switch plus volume/tone controls feel solid and appear to be of good quality. I am sure they are Alpha Potentiometers as opposed to CTS Potentiometers and the 3-way switch is not a Switchcraft but works great. I have no idea what capacitors are connected between the volume and tone controls however I have experimented with "Bumble Bee" and various "PIO" such as Waverly's and I can't tell a big difference.

Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
My Epiphone Sheraton 2 played great right out of the case when it arrived just 2 days after I placed my order. Kudos to AMS for prompt/fast delivery! Mine plays like butter. No note choke outs during string bends, no fret buzzing, nice low action, the neck is straight as a razor and the neck radius fits my left hand super comfortably. The guitar is well balanced and the controls are all easy to reach and manipulate. I wish Epiphone would use a rubber grip rig around the volume/tone knobs like Ibanez does. It seems like such an obvious feature that would make rolling the knobs during playing easier. Mine does not feel too heavy, but it does have some heft to it. It is comfortable to play sitting down and standing up. The overall feel is absolutely fantastic.
|
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
My Epiphone Sheraton 2 sounds thick and creamy. Another description would be a fat sound. The pickups are double wax potted and they are super quite. No feedback or squelling during abrupt stops or at the end of a song. Excellent sustain and clarity from the factory pickups. The neck pickup really stands out as a violin type of sustain. The bridge pickup is bright and not too mid-rangey. I love the stock pickups. I have read a lot of reviews where guitarists feel that Epiphone pickups are inferior and they often recommend changing them out. One thing to consider is that when you plug your Epiphone into your rig, you really should adjust the EQ as most people have their rig set up for a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster. Of course the Epiphone may sound muddy, thin, or just "not right" but once you adjust your amplifier and any pedals you may be using, you should see a difference in how good these stock pickups really are. Epiphone takes great care in manufacturing their pickups.

Action
How was the action out of the box?
My Epiphone Sheraton 2 was perfect right out of the box/case. No issues at all.
|
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish on my Sheraton 2 was flawless. I bought the "Natural" color.
|
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I have had good luck with my Epiphone's as they really are built to be played and last.
