Fender has been making great amps for over 50 years and over the years a few models have surfaced as classics, cornerstones of the industry, historic instruments in thier own right. The Fender 65 Twin Reverb Guitar Combo Amplifier was one of these instruments. To accurately recreate the tone of an original '65 Twin Reverb, Fender went right back to the original schematics, original parts (even original vendors when possible) and started making the amps again.
The Fender '65 Twin Reverb is a 2x12 inch, 85 watt, all tube amp that gets its tone from a total of 10 tubes, including tube driven reverb and vibrato. This '65 Twin Reverb amp delivers timeless tone and expression. The Fender '65 Twin Reverb is an authentic reproduction of the original amp to ride the wild surf, one of the all-time hall of fame amplifiers. Clean as you want it to be with a tone fatter than the butcher's dog.

The King of "Clean"
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
As far as amps go, it's hard to beat a Fender Twin. The '65 Fender Twin RI is solid as a rock and built to last.
|
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I've owned this amp about a month and have put it through its paces with my band. Although I have a "backup" amp by default (just happen to have another amp), I have no doubts about its reliability. I would be comfortable gigging this without a backup.

I put off buying a Twin because of the cost. Now that I've taken the plunge and have one, I kick myself for waiting so long. I've been playing guitar for almost 50 years and have seen a lot of amps come and go from my stable. The '65 Twin RI is one of those rare amps that stand out fromn the others and is a bonafide "keeper". It is well built, solid, dependable and delivers the goods, at least for the type of music I play.

Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
This is a heavy amp. There is no getting around it. Too bad Fender doesn't build these with castors on them. However, I do have a collapsible dolly that makes moving thing a breeze.
|
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
This amp is ideal for blues, garage band-era '50s and '60s rock, country and jazz. It is a maximum clean amp, as well. It just won't "break up" on its own. However, it does love and take pedals well, and I use a TubeScreamer when I want to get some light overdriven sounds from it. It has basic treble, middle and bass controls, and they are sensitive to adjustments. Add some of the built-in, tube driven tremolo and tank reverb and you have a killer classic amp. I'm not a huge effects guy but I have found that I've had to use an EQ pedal to fatten things up a bit with just about every other amp I've owned. Not so with the Twin. It's great to just plug a guitar (Strat or Les Paul) straight into the amp and leave the pedals packed away. Some folks will say this amp is not built for metal. perhaps, but I think it could be adapted with a good distortion or overdrive pedal.

Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Fit and finish are flawless.

Action
How was the action out of the box?
N/A -- It's not a guitar, but a guitar amp.
