This evolution of Slash's Paul looks incredible and has a few surprises under the hood. Like his friend and mentor Joe Perry, Slash's concept of what makes a great Les Paul has changed greatly since the original Custom Shop Slash model of the late '90s. The plain maple top and Custom Authentic finish combine with Duncan Alnico Pro II humbuckers and a Fishman Powerbridge (which can be used by itself or blended with the Duncans) to create an instrument that covers all the tonal bases. The first and foremost component of a Gibson guitar is the wood. Tone woods are chosen for their ability to product and sustain tone. Only the finest hard maple, spruce, mahogany, rosewood and ebony are selected for tightness, consistency of grain and evenness of color.
Gibson Custom Shop instruments receive at least eight coats of hand-applied nitrocellulose lacquer, painstakingly buffed to a high gloss finish. Gibson has been perfecting this process for over a century.
