In 1960 Gibson introduced its first 16 inch wide dreadnought with the extra wide upperbout, known as the square shoulder body shape. To emphasize the importance of these new models, Gibson outfitted them with elaborate ornamentation such as engraved pickguards and multi-layered binding.
