The Mackie 1202-VLZ3 Premium 12 Channel Compact Mixer builds on the legacy of the ever popular 1202-VLZ Pro, offering the same great features, plus greatly enhanced sound quality.
The 1202-VLZ3 features four studio class XDR2 (Extended Dynamic Range) microphone preamps, along with Mackie’s proprietary Active three-band EQ circuitry, give the 1202-VLZ3 its high-headroom, low-noise functionality. The 1202-VLZ3 is the model of efficiency, packing more features into its small footprint than any other mixer in this class. With its outstanding sound quality, just the right amount of control, and multi-voltage power supply, the 1202-VLZ3 is the perfect choice for smaller mixing applications.

Mackie 1202-VLZ3 Features

  • 12-channel ultra-low noise compact mixer with highest possible headroom

While it keeps all the features and functionality of its predecessor, the Mackie 1202-VLZ3 offers even greater headroom versus the original. Mackie could have stopped right then and there, but they are obsessed with perfection. So they redesigned the Mix Bus, tweaked the EQs, and created a mixer with a highly intuitive, musical feel.

Vastly Superior XDR2 Mic Preamps
The 1202 VLZ3's new XDR2 (Extended Dynamic Range) second-generation mic preamps are better than ever. These new pres offer incredibly low noise, with individual mic pre THD below 0.0007%, and overall mixer THD less than 0.0025%. With 60dB of available gain per channel, the 1202-VLZ3 can handle inputs ranging from a whisper to a scream, and can even handle hot line-level signals up to +22db, without any added coloration. You simply won’t find preamps this good on any other mixer in this price range.

Equalization
Mackie invested tremendous resources optimizing the center frequencies of their 3-band Active EQs. By selecting 80Hz, 2.5kHz and 12kHz, for the Lows, Mids and Highs, respectively, they created an even more musical EQ than on previous VLZs. With up to 15dB boost/cut capability per band, VLZ3’s Active EQ provides more tone-sculpting latitude than any other mixer in its class.

Professional Features
The Mackie 1202-VLZ3 is packed with premium features on every mic channel: 75Hz Low-Cut filters, two Aux Sends, inserts, phantom power, constant-loudness Pan controls and Pre Fader Solo. And since you can never have too many output options, Mackie provided a Control Room/Phones source matrix, Master Aux section with EFX to Monitor, tape outputs, a high-volume headphone amplifier and balanced XLR and TRS outputs.

Need Even More Flexibility?
Greg Mackie's mind was working overtime when he originally came up with this—instead of sending muted signals into the vacuum of space, why not do something useful with them? So, when you press the mute button on the 1202-VLZ3, the signal is indeed muted—but it also appears at the ALT 3-4 output jacks and ALT 3-4 stereo bus. This is an ideal way to create additional Aux Sends and mixes for cry rooms, green rooms, or assistive listening, etc. And with a press of a button, the ALT 3-4 mix can be assigned to the Main output—which means ALT 3-4 can act very much like a mixer within a mixer.

Versatility
You'll find Mackie mixers everywhere you go—from video post-production facilities, to major artist tour buses, to duty as field mixers for news departments of all the major networks. Drummers and keyboardists use them to send submixes to front of house and monitor consoles. VLZ3 compact mixers are the ideal choice for any situation requiring superior audio mixing, especially where space and/or budget constraints are an issue.

The Mixers are both wll made & dependable. They will tolerate a lot of hard knocks.
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
Signal routing is superb - easily handles multi track recording where you need to listen to previously recorded tracks while playing & recording a new one.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
The Mackie line is rich with features - they have thought of everything you will need. But you will need to spend a little study time learning how it works to get the most from it.
Sound
How is the tone?
Very low noise & distortion is undetectable.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Never had a problem with my 802, and thus far the 1202 is working like a champ.
Overall

For the performance & capability, I don't know how they can afford to sell these for the price they do.

Great Little All-Around Mixer for Live Use and 4-Track Simultaneous Recording
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Very well made. I've had 4 - 24.4's, 3 - 1402's and 2 - 1202's over the years, all VLZ series. All served me well and never had any problems with any of them. Were they dependable? Absolutely!!!
Features
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
It has all the features I need for the duo jobs I play (usually over 100 every year). It's small, easy to hook up, and it's very well-built.
Ease of Use
How easy is this product to use? How easy is the product to use with other products? Did it take long for you to learn to use this product? Was the manual helpful? How playable do you consider this product to be?
For recording 4 tracks at once, the 2 main outs and 2 alternate outs allow channel separation to feed 4 recorder inputs, a rare commodity in mixers of this size. For live (duo)use, I use both auxes to drive FX units and listen to the whole mix on the control room outs. A little out of the norm, but I've worked over 500 gigs this way in the last 5 years, and they keep calling us back!
Sound
How is the tone?
Mackie mic preamps are excellent. Eq is where it should be. Solid metal case provides excellent shielding. I set mine on top of a power amp rack all the time and it's quiet.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
This new 1202VLZ3 should last like the others did. The only reason I sold the others over the years is because I always got a good return on my investment, so I'd just sell one and get a new one every now and then.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Great little all-purpose mixer that's loaded with features for its size.
