VOX AC30 H2 Heritage Collection Hand Wired Guitar Amplifier

The Vox AC30H2 Heritage Collection Hand Wired Combo has been 50 years in the making.
Your search for the Holy Grail of VOX tone ends here. To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of VOX guitar amplifiers, we are pleased to introduce the latest in the new Heritage Collection range of hand-wired amplifiers– the AC30H2. Rather than just a typical reissue where a vintage amp is dusted off and copied, this amplifier, like the others in the Heritage Collection, transports you through the golden age of VOX tone, combining the prized EF86 preamp channel of 1958 with the 1963 Top Boost channel all in one amplifier. Add in some modern tone shaping control enhancements and the result is perhaps the finest VOX amplifier in the company’s 50 year history.

Channel 1 is the EF86 Preamp channel, and features two inputs wired in the traditional way providing a 6dB gain difference between them. A two-position BASS SHIFT switch is included, with position 1 voiced to the original vintage-correct bass response and position 2 voiced to tighten the bass response and reduce any muddiness during high volume use. The three-position Brilliance Switch provides flat response when in the off position. Position 1 is a new position voiced like the early AC30 Treble amps, while position 2 is the original brilliance circuit, which acts as a dramatic bass cut. The EF86 Mode switch re-configures the EF86 valve from Pentode mode to Triode mode. Triode mode will give a lower gain tone with higher headroom. Pentode mode is the famed original mode and has a very sweet high gain tone with less headroom.

Channel 2 is the Top Boost Preamp channel. Like Channel 1, this channel includes two inputs wired with a 6dB gain difference between them. The Treble and Bass controls are from the 1963 Top Boost circuit and are extremely interactive. Very minor adjustments of these controls can yield dramatic changes in tone colour. And true to VOX form is the Top Cut control, which cuts high from either channel end as it’s turned up.

Flexible power.
The O/P Switch adds even more flexibility to the AC30 Heritage. This switch changes the power output valves from Pentode Mode, which is the normal operating mode of the power amplifier, to Triode Mode which halves the power output to 15 watts and at the same time offering smoother tonal characteristics.

The finishing touches.
Great care and research went into the cosmetics for this special amplifier which perfectly blends authentic vintage styling with contemporary attributes. These touches include vintage-inspired cream vinyl covering with complimenting dark tan coloured handles.

Subject:Hall of famer!
Quality: Quality is exceptional! Built like a tank but chassis screws needed to be tightened down. I took advantage of the situation and took a peek inside to see what tubes i got. Mine had Electro Harmonix 84s, Sovtek 5AR4,(Which i WILL be changing)one Tung Sol, 12AX7 (probably the driver), the other AX7s were Sovteks (again stating the obvious tube swap) and last but not least the EF86 (with a big condom on it that probably will melt off after time)?
Features: Im a gentleman that prefers blondes as far as my amps are concerned! The simplicity of the controll layout (less knobs more tone). I wish this amp had a 4 ohm load switch so i can run the blues parrellel! Vibrato because Vox had the best; a bias vary type. Its definately hand wired millitary style but still with a circuit board! (Not point to point) Thats a drag!!! It still is the best wiring out there as far as a mass produced amp goes.
Sound: Tone is True AC30! Not like a Fender, not like a Marshall! It goes from "A hard days night" to all out "Helter Skelter"! So much chime that Syd Barrett Would blush and say, Sorry Chaps! as Pink floyd gives him the dirty look! Amp modeler guitarists STAY AWAY! This amp don't need that crap!! This amp is for Vox tube freaks only!
Reliability: Well, like the vintage AC30s (easy bake oven) this one is probably going to get real hott and need lots of maintenance!! I dont baby my gear, i play it for what it is, so I will probably be poppin fuses and power sections! I'll maybey toast an output transformer or two also! That is the nature of this particular beast! I like natural drive and its hard on all amps! So far; So good.
Overall: If you want Marshall drive, buy a JCM800! If you want Fender clean, get a Twin! If you want to get 50 years of Vox AC 30 tone get one of these, NO COMPRIMISE! I give Vox amajor thumbs up on this one. With my abuse, hand wiring is a must for component replacement. Anyway, this is the only AC30 you should purchace, all of them should be made this well!
Value: Killer value because any thing with a vintage Brittish tube design and name costs more than 2K. No matter what the watts are, it all adds up anyway. This amp is only 200$ more than the AC30CC2 with the bulldogs. If you think the component quality layout and better materials isnt worth it... YOURE CRAZY!
