Solid alternative to a Sansamp
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Iv'e owned it and played with it extensively for 7 years. From stomping on it so much Iv'e had problems with buzz and bad grounds; the pots on the inside that connect to the input jacks came undone. I had to bring it to my local repair shop to sauter it back together, and unfotunately the problem reared it's head again after about a dozen uses or so. I do realize that Iv'e been stomping on it for a number of years now, but come on, isn't that what a stomp box is made for. I still use it but I don't switch channels; I find a tone I like and keep it throught the set.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
2 channels, color and noise gate buttons, distortion and blend knobs on channel 2, bass, mid, and treble knobs.
How is the tone?
I used a bass Sansamp for years before it got stolen; I actually bought this is a replacement because it was on sale at a music store and saved me about $60 oiver buying another Sansamp. Iv'e gotten very used to the sound of this pedal and would be hesitant to go back to Sansamp. Much like a Sansamp, be judicious with your use of the tone controls. A little goes a long way. The distortion of a Sansamp is more agressive, while the MXR is more transparent and is sounds better blended in as an overdrive than a pure distortion unit.
