Subject:Not as good as I hoped
Quality: The build is not very impressive. Granted we're talking about a controller for under $400, but even still I think the quality could've been a bit better.
Features: You can actually do a number of useful things on it, and it works well with sonar. Only problem is that it's a pain to work with.
Ease of Use: Not really any ease of use. You only have a 4 character display that doesn't really tell you anything clearly except numbers like the values, midi channel, etc. But anything else is abbreviated and you have to look up what they mean. Also often times when using it with Sonar's ACT option, it would need the knob twisted or slider moved a few times before it would start controlling what it was supposed to, and you had to keep the ACT screen window up so you'd know what it was controlling as you switched VSTs or from VST to the track pane.
Sound: n/a
Action: The keys are not as responsive as most would probably like. Even with VC changes it still didn't feel right. Also, even after 7 months of use, it still feels stiff, doesn't feel like they move with my playing like they should.
Value: If you're just looking for something to key in MIDI tracks for loops and some quick sound tweaks then this isn't a bad key controller. But if you're looking for something that has great feel and more user friendliness, get a standard keyboard with great action and then get a Mackie Control for your control surface functions.
"The best feature of AMS is its ability to offer customers the option of payments. Many of us cannot afford to outlay a chunk of cash for an item. And, AMS provides a payment option unlike a credit card that really is a godsend for musicians who are broke most of the time." Nov '08
