Electro Voice Drum Microphone Package

Electro Voice Drum Microphone Package includes two N/D468 drum/percussion/instrument mics and one N/D868 bass drum mic. These are professional dynamic-type microphones with supercardioid polar patterns for maximum isolation and feedback rejection, and optimized for specific applications. These mics are ruggedly built and internally isolated from vibration with EV's AcoustiDYM(tm) shock-mount system. Frequency response of the N/D468 is 30-22,000 Hz (close miked) and 20-10,000Hz for the N/D868.

N/D868 Features

  • N/DYM Dynamic Cardioid Bass Drum Microphone
  • Designed specifically for bass drums
  • Extended low-frequency response
  • Optimized sensitivity for high sound pressure levels (SPL's)
  • Rugged, steel construction
The Electro-Voice N/D868 is a cardioid dynamic microphone designed for use with bass drums. Every aspect of its design is optimized for miking a bass drum in both live and recording applications. The frequency response is tailored to match the optimal post-processing usually applied to flat microphones when used in this application. This means that the N/D868 is a plug-in-and-hang-on product. You can use this microphone as is —no post processing needed. The microphone has a lower sensitivity than other products in the N/DYM line to compensate for the high sound pressure levels (SPL's) present in bass drums, preventing distortion at the input of the mixer. A highly effective hum-bucking coil is also used to cancel hum interference from lighting and other power sources.

The N/D868 offers an adaptation of the traditional heart-shaped cardioid polar response for maximum rejection at the rear of the microphone when used outside the drum. Optimum performance is realized when the microphone is placed inside the drum approximately three inches from and pointed at the drum head. A common method for mounting a bass drum microphone is to place a pillow inside the drum with the microphone resting on the pillow. The pillow attenuates the low-mid frequencies of the drum, a desirable characteristic further enhanced by the N/D868's tailored response. Attack and "chest thump" can be varied by adjusting the microphone's distance from the front head and its position relative to the beater.

N/D468 Features
  • N/DYM Dynamic Supercardioid Instrument Microphone
  • Designed specifically for musical instruments
  • Accurate response, even in high sound pressure level (SPL) applications
  • Flexible mechanical design for optimum positioning
  • Supercardioid pattern for exceptional acoustic isolation and feedback rejection
N/D468 INFORMATION
The Electro-Voice N/D468, part of a new generation of N/DYM microphones, is specifically designed to accurately capture the sound of horns, acoustic and electric guitars, and the percussive energy of drums in both live performance and studio recording. The N/D468 is a member of a family of microphones manufactured to enhance sonic smoothness, improve gain-before-feedback, and provide more consistent performance with greater durability than earlier generations of N/DYM microphones. EV’s microphone designers created a smooth, extended response with an open top end to reproduce instrumental sounds with natural acoustic accuracy. The N/D468’s reduced size and exclusive pivoting yoke gives you maximum mechanical versatility on any in-strument. The N/D468 is the musician’s choice for a microphone with unsurpassed mechanical flexibility and studio-quality acoustics.

N/DYM microphones feature EV's AcoustiDYM shock-mount system. This unique vibration isolating system works as a multistage device. At low frequencies, a rear sound wave cancels the diaphragm motion while, at high frequencies, the specially designed rubber shock mount isolates the transducer from motion. Combined with the windscreen bumper, the shock mount forms an advanced technology, vibration isolating system that dramatically reduces all forms of handling noise for the most demanding situations.

The dynamic element of the N/D468 will provide reliable operation in extreme temperature, humidity and other adverse conditions that would render typical condenser microphones useless. These N/D468 features will provide years of trouble-free operation.
