Electro Voice ND767A Dynamic Vocal Microphone

The Electro Voice ND767a is one of the finest pro dynamic stage vocal mics you will find.
EV's famous clean, clear N/Dym sound quality has been fine-tuned to deliver their most accurate bass response ever. By tailoring the proximity effect (an increase in bass response as you move closer to the mic) with EV's Vocally Optimized Bass (VOB) technology, your vocals cut through the mix even more clearly. The 767a's high output and supercardioid polar pattern work together to practically eliminate feedback. Includes zippered gig bag and stand mount adapter.

  • Designed specifically for lead vocalists
  • Ideal for both live performance and in the recording studio
  • Large diaphragm N/DYM transducer for condenser-like sensitivity and frequency response
  • Superior multistage shock mount for unmatched low handling noise

The Electro-Voice N/D767, part of a new generation of N/DYM microphones, is designed for live performance or studio vocal recording. The N/D767 has been manufactured with refinements which enhance the sonic smoothness, improve gain-before-feedback and provide consistent performance with greater durability than earlier generations of N/DYM microphones. EV's microphone designers fashioned into the N/D767 a smooth, extended frequency response with a gentle rise in the mid-frequencies for the optimum vocal clarity found in studio- quality microphones. The N/D767 also features an outstanding neodymium-iron-boron magnetic structure that provides greater sensitivity and exceptional signal-to-noise ratio for improved recording quality. These features make the N/D767 the microphone of choice for the discriminating vocalist who demands a product that delivers studio-quality performance with a warm richness that enhances the voice.

The N/D767 features a highly effective humbucking coil is also used to cancel hum interference from lighting and other power sources.

N/DYM microphones feature EV's AcoustiDYM shock-mount system. This unique vibration isolating system works as a multistage device. At low frequencies, a rear sound wave cancels the diaphragm motion while, at high frequencies, the specially designed rubber shock mount isolates the transducer from motion. Combining AcoustiDYM with the elasto-meric Warm-Grip handle and the windscreen bumper produces an advanced technology, vibration isolating system which dramatically reduces all forms of handling noise for the most demanding situations.

The N/D767 has a supercardioid polar pattern which is unusually uniform with frequency, ensuring superior gain-before-feedback in live applications and provides superb acoustic isolation.

The N/D767 pop filter’s unique design utilizes a specially processed Acoustifoam filter to minimize wind noise and vocal P–pops. This design makes the pop filter an integral part of the microphone’s removable front grille assembly, allowing easy cleaning for continued top performance.

Operation
The N/D767’s low-frequency response varies with the distance of the sound source to the microphone. This is known as proximity effect. Maximum bass response is produced in close-up use with the microphone 1/4 inch from the sound source. Closer working distances, in addition to the N/D767’s supercardioid polar pattern, reduce the risk of sound-system feedback while preserving intelligibility.

By working closer to the microphone, the human voice will sound more robust. However, the significant bass boost provides an increase in overall microphone output level. The mixer gain may be proportionately reduced, resulting in a reduction of the system’s sensitivity to feedback caused by sound entering the microphone from the distant loudspeakers.

The dynamic element of the N/D767 will provide reliable operation in extreme temperature, humidity and other adverse conditions that would render typical condenser microphones useless. These N/D767 features will provide years of trouble–free operation.

Subject:A Mic for EVeryone!
Quality: Love the low handling noise feature as well as the durability of the mic. If you are a busy musician who gigs constantly, accidents will happen. It's not a matter of "if" but "when". You will want a strong durable mic to take the rigors of the road and EV holds up strong to it's reputation in doing so.
Features: Easily the VOB technology. If you know about mixing and gain staging, you will not run into feedback issues at all.
Ease of Use: Plug in and sing!
Sound: These mics are very versatile. Great for anyone, male or female, who knows how to use a mic and how to get the best from it. My wife swears by them and loves the sound she gets from them after the mix. She has an excellent range and sings lead and harmony in the styles of jazz, blues, rock, and bosa nova to name a few. We have A/B them with other mics including Shure SM58's and Betas, Sennheiser, Audix, and others and nothing compared to the versatility of the 767a.
Value: We have used the 767a's for over 9 years now. Twice we had them stolen and replaced them with new 767a's. We recently had to purchase a new one after one was damaged in an accident. Other mics in this price range don't compare!
Do you own this product?: Yes and have replaced them after they were stolen and will do it again.

Subject:Disappointing.
Quality: It's pretty
Features: rich sound in the low range
Ease of Use: NA
Sound: This review is mainly a warning for female singers considering this mic. On the low end of my range, this mike does help to brighten the tone and gives my voice a richer, more cutting sound. Unfortunately, as a soprano, that only covers about a third of my range. Above, say a mid-A, the sound becomes excruciatingly shrill and EQ-ing could not compensate even with all treble ranges turned completely down. And I actually have a fairly good bass tone, even in the upper ranges. With such rave reviews (all from male singers), I was disappointed. Despite the description of "virtually eliminates feedback", I found its performance only somewhat better than the Shure sm-58, feedback was definitely reduced at close singing ranges but still picked up a significant amount of monitor feedback.

Subject:These mics are best for male vocals!
Quality: These mics are very sturday and well made, and take the abuse of road work.
Features: The best feature I think is the VOB Technology (Voice Optimized bass). They really pull out the lows clearly in the male voice, and help if you don't have a low voice at getting down there just by getting ontop of the mic. The warm grip body greatly reduces handling noise to near zero!!
Ease of Use: Easy use, just plug it in and go
Sound: Has GREAT tone and quality, VERY easy to get settings, and really resists feedback!

Subject:EV ND/767 Super cardiod Mic
Quality: High, feels secure in hand.
Features: Neodymium magnet provides high sensitivity with light weight.
Ease of Use: About the same as other hand held mics
Sound: Clean and very bright on the high end - excessively so for my use. Exaggerates sibilant sounds, and low end is weak.
Do you own this product?: I bought it but returned it for an Audio Technica AE 6100
