Subject:A good starter sound card with ASIO support
Quality: The hardware is well made and dependable. The EMU drivers for their sound cards are always a little tricky to deal with and take points away for overall quality. Other than the 'Patch Bay' software that comes with it, this honestly feels like just a 'step up' from the Creative Audigy cards (and, indeed, Creative and EMU are the same company now, so it might be!)
Features: The fact that the onboard DSP effects have never worked quite right on 3 different PCs with 2 different operating systems (XP and Vista) has always been a disappointment. Other than that, this little card is ok.
Ease of Use: Setup of the software was a little difficult on all machines and both operating systems. The earlier Vista drivers had a huge memory leak problem, but the new Vista 32 drivers have fixed that and are rock-solid stable. However, they have disabled the ability to include the DSP effects via their custom VSTs in the new version.
Value: I think you could probably achieve acceptable results with better overall compatibility with other Windows apps with a higher end Creative Card. For a professional card, I think I'll be buying a non-EMU card next time; probably even a USB 2.0 or Firewire.
Appearance: It looks like a PCI card with breakout connectors...what can you say about that!
Skill Level: Intermediate

Subject:Seems like a good value, however...
Overall:

QUALITY:
The board seems to be good quality. The breakout cables are good quality. No appearant problems with the manufacturing.

FEATURES:
For this level card it has a good number and type of inputs and outputs. The optical fiber interface is a nice feature although I personally don't use it.

EASE OF USE:
It took a while to get this installed in my PC. Drivers and software conflict with other existing sound components and these must be removed and settings dissabled before adding this card. This fact is documented in the setup instructions and I found one must comply with the instructions -- no compromise. Read all set up documentation before attempting to install.

VALUE:
This card seemed like a good value up front, however, overall I dont think it was worth the money since I lost some of my other sound components. Should not be a problem if you dedicate a seperate PC with this card or do not need your existing sound

Subject:Sounds good....But.......
Overall:

QUALITY:
The card produces great sound when it works, also the software ruins this otherwise value oriented card that could be an excellent sound card. it is not very dependable, this is generally due to the failings of the software. The hardware seems to be rather good.

FEATURES:
The sound it produces when it works is good. Everything else is Hard to use unless you just want to listen to a cd. The hardware is good and produces good sound. The software is incomplete and hard to use. I would like to see software that would work well with other recording software. Also better written drivers that were capable and complete.

EASE OF USE:
This thing has been the most time intensive, messed up thing I have ever had the mis-fortune to try and make work. The software malfunctions at the smallest provocation and is totally propietary. There is always something in the software, almost every other day, that needs resetting, fixed or completely r

Overall:

QUALITY:
Very well made and has been rather dependable too. Performs as described in factory specs. I've been using this product since it hit the public shelves and it has not failed me..I don't expect it will. The worst quality of the 0404 is the breakout cables, an easy to pinch or otherwise damage part..

FEATURES:
The best thing about this product is platform flexibility. The lowest ranked feature have to choose between the optical or coax digital input...I wanted both.

EASE OF USE:
It was easy to use this product but, I went in with prior DAW knowledge. Even still if you can read and use the product the way it was intended you'll have no issues.

VALUE:
It's well worth what I paid for it and cost less than most comparable products and out performs some of them. After deeply experiencing the product I can't say I'd pay more for it but, only because I need a few more features (which I plan to get from the 1212M or 18
