Product Description

The advanced jumbo style acoustic guitar is the go-to acoustic for beginners as well as professionals. Over the years, a wide range of artists including Hank Williams, The Beatles, Elvis Costello, and Jeff Tweedy of Wilco have chosen a jumbo style acoustic as their main tool for writing and performing. The Epiphone AJ-100CE is a great acoustic guitar with a beautiful cutaway for great upper fret access that can keep up with you and its built with over a century of expertise and skill.

Advanced Jumbos are the bread and butter of the acoustic guitar world. On stage with an acoustic band and little amplification they make a strong rhythm anchor. The AJ-100CE, like all of our acoustic guitars, is made tough. The AJ-100CE is legendary for being easy to set up and for staying in tune so no matter how much playing time you have, it's ready to go.

Body: Best Tonewoods
The AJ-100CE features a select spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breath and improve with age and with lots of playing time. So play the AJ-100CE a lot! The body is made from select mahogany and the bridge is made from beautiful rosewood glued at the precise point for stable tone and intonation. Guitars endure great stress between the nut and bridge and rosewood has proven to be both a long lasting and perfect tone compliment to a spruce top. The classic style pickguard features the iconic Epiphone "E" and is set off by simple but elegant black binding.

Revolutionary Stereo Pickups
Under the AJ100CE’s compensated saddle is Shadow’s proprietary NanoFlex™, low-impedance pickup. Unlike a piezo, this unique flexible sensing material features integrated active electronics that not only pick up string vibrations, but also top and body vibrations as well for a truly acoustic tone without the harshness of piezos.

Mahogany Neck
The AJ-100CE mahogany neck has a 25.5" scale and features a SlimTaper™ shape and a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. Our iconic Epiphone Sloped Dovewing headstock completes the look with premium machine heads.

Good entry level instrument
Your general opinion of this product.
Purchased this guitar from scratch and dent listing - when it arrived I couldn't find any defects or damage to the guitar itself. There were a couple small scratches on the headstock, probably from the factory, someone was careless with stringing it. It is an all laminate construction guitar, feels pretty solid. Action was high on both nut and the saddle, being a personal preference for my style of playing I shaved a bit of material from the bottom of the saddle and lowered nut slots using proper files. It plays like butter now. Plenty of saddle left if further adjustments are needed, I plan on swapping plastic with tusq or bone for both. Just not right now. Under saddle pickup is thin sounding and trebly, with some proper EQ, bit of compression, chorus and a little reverb it sounds pretty decent. Overall I felt I got a pretty good guitar for not a lot of money, primarily I will be using it plugged in (playing at home/open mic/gigging).
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
Feels well made. Too early to tell how dependable it will be, I keep it in a hardshell case and in climate controlled environment.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Neck is a C profile and feels pretty good, plan on using some 0000 fine steel wool to take some of the gloss off - make it faster neck.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Bright sounding, not a lot of bass or midrange acoustically - plugged in it can sound pretty good with proper EQ and a good amp.
How was the action out of the box?
Action was high at both nut and saddle - I have adjusted it and it plays smooth. Intonation is spot on.
How did the stain or paint job look?
Thick plasticky finish - to be expected in this price range. Not too crazy about it, overall decent looking, cannot find imperfections in it.
How has it stood up over time?
To be seen... A little online research has shown that headstocks are prone to snapping off if guitar falls out of the stand. Something to be careful with, but I do take care of my instruments.
