Product Description

The Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Electric Bass Guitar was designed by Casady in collaboration with Epiphone and is the culmination of years of experimentation to find an instrument with superb, balanced electric tone and the response of an acoustic bass.

Casady is one of the rare rock bassists known by both fans and players for his signature tone. And like The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and The Beatles' Paul McCartney, Casady became a bass player after years of study on other instruments.

When I first started playing, I ran across a short scale semi-hollow bass, said Casady. Despite lacking some low end, I really enjoyed the semi-hollow nature of that bass and over the years tried to capture that characteristic. Casady did find a rare Les Paul bass that came close to the sound he was seeking. In 1985, I was living in New York and happened to stop in a music store one day and saw a goldtop, full scale semi-hollow Les Paul bass, Casady recalled. I loved the bass but found the pickup to be deficient. Casady approached Epiphone with his ideas and with help from our Epiphone luthiers, Casady fulfilled a life-long dream by designing the perfect electric bass.

What is your overall opinion of this product?
Received the gold top guitar and just changed strings to the Dean Markley “Blue Steel” strings, round wound. Medium Light. Finish is pristine and the overall setup was good, however I re-set all my instruments to my preference. My preference is to keep the neck FLAT. Great tone on all settings and with all types of music, with exception of slapping (but then again one would typically not slap a hollow body).
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
The overall quality is excellent. Much better than expected for an instrument in this price range.
Features
Are the features on the product what you were expecting? What are your favorite features?
Features are as described. No one feature sticks out as being better than the others.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I set my neck as I tend to "dig in" when playing. the neck from the factory was set to specs but as I said before, I re-setup all of my instruments to my preference.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Surprisingly from the single pickup, this bass is a comfortable bass that carries a great, warm tone.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The gold top is flawless, and the back finish is also flawless... I lucked out with this bass!
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
For an instrument in this price range, my expectations were reduced...after all you get what you pay for. However, the instrument has an excellent finish, great tone and overall is fun to play.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Setup out of the box was acceptable but as previously stated, I re-string and re-setup all of my instruments regardless of instrument price-range.
