Product Description

The Epiphone EJ160E John Lennon is a unique instrument with the foundation of a great advanced jumbo mahogany-body, solid spruce-top acoustic guitar. It has all the warm, punchy tone that is the hallmark of that type of acoustic guitar design. But this guitar doesn't stop there. The EJ-160E also provides a stacked P-100 pickup, located just off the neck, above the soundhole, which delivers a tremendous, fat tone through your amp. Tone and volume controls are provided, as is nickel hardware.

Since 1873, Epiphone instruments have been proudly played and endorsed by professional artists. And while every Epiphone is a compilation of over 125 years of experience working directly with musicians, only a few embody a single artists individual creativity and spirit. The Epiphone Signature Collection guitars are as legendary and as individual as the artists themselves.

About Epiphone Guitar
Epiphone's passion has always been about more than just making guitars. It has been about making music. It has been about understanding what is inside every musican that makes them want to, have to, express themselves. And understanding the myriad musical styles, where they are going and how they might develop. For over one hundred and twenty-five years they have continually looked for new and better ways to help players take their music farther.

General
Your general opinion of this product.
i've had my eye on this for quite a while now, and when i noticed the price had come way down, i had to get it. i have always liked the idea of an acoustic with an electric guitar pick up set-up. i've never seen another like it except for the Gibson model, which is WAY out of my price range. i digress, out of the box, it looks great, tuned it up and it plays great, sounds a little tinny not plugged in and the pick up is noisier than i thought it would be when plugged in. overall, i'm very satisfied, the positives far outweigh the negatives.
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
i am predicting this will be dependable. i have other Epiphone products (guitars, amps) and they have been very dependable. the quality is what's to be expected of a well made instrument, nothing loose or gaps anywhere.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
the guitar itself is light and doesn't feel bulky or chunky. the feel is nimble and quick, frets are nice, and smooth and even. plays very much like an electric.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
as is, the tone is rather thin and tinny when played acoustically, not unpleasant, just not as deep or full sound i get out of my other acoustic (non-electric). when plugged in, it sounds great. will probably switch out the pick up with that Seymour Duncan stacked humbucker replacement Tele neck pick up. partly hoping it will be quieter, but mostly cuz it would look SUPER COOL.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
the action is surprisingly low. i mean like an electric. makes it really easy to play. however, if this is your first acoustic, the good news is you will be able to get a decent acoustic sound, the bad news is, if you ever get a "real" acoustic, you will be surprised how high the action is. this is also my main suspect of the thin tone. will probably raise the action some, so i can get slightly thicker strings on it.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
paint job looks great.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
as i said before, i own other Epi products and expect this to hold up just as well.
