Product Description

One of Epiphone's most original and modern designs, the Epiphone Genesis was first published in the Epiphone catalog in late 1979 and was viewed as a new era in Epiphone instruments. The Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe Pro Electric Guitar puts this collector's favorite back into the limelight with a beautiful AAA flame maple veneer top and solid mahogany body and Epiphone ProBucker pickups that utilize Coil-Tapping for a variety of tomes not previously offered on the Genesis of the past.

Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe Pro Electric Guitar Features

  • Mahogany Body with AAA Flame Maple Veneer
  • Mahogany Neck with 1960's SlimTaper D Profile
  • 22 Fret Rosewood Fingerboard with Pearloid Trapezoid Inlays
  • Epiphone ProBucker 2 and ProBucker 3 Pickups with Coil Tap
  • 1-Ply Cream Binding on the Top and Fingerboard
A bold instrument with a warm sound that can do anything from hard rock to fusion jazz, the Genesis was part of Epiphone's longstanding tradition of giving players more for their money at a level of quality and consistency other guitar makers can't maintain.

AAA Flame Maple Top and Futuristic Features
The Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe PRO features a solid mahogany body with a AAA quilt maple veneer top that delivers the classic tone and sustain that made the Genesis stand out in a crowd. The double cutaway body features 1-ply cream binding on the top for a beautiful vintage look. The mahogany neck has a 24.75 inch scale with a 12 inch radius and features the player favorite 1960s SlimTaper D-profile along with a glued-in neck joint for lifelong stability. The rosewood fingerboard comes with pearloid trapezoid inlays, 22 medium-jumbo frets and a 1.68 inch nut along with single ply cream binding along the fingerboard.

Epiphone ProBucker Humbuckers with Coil-Tapping
The original Genesis model featured coil-tapping via a small mini toggle. However, the original Genesis did not allow for coil-tapping each individual pickup. Now, the new Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe PRO zooms into the 21st century with ProBucker pickups with coil-tapping on both the rhythm and lead pickups.

ProBucker pickups feature Alnico II magnets, the same magnets used in sought-after vintage PAF humbuckers. Alnico II magnets provide a rich, warm tone with a sparkling high end and a solid low end. The Ltd. Edition Genesis Deluxe PRO features a ProBucker 2 in the neck position and a ProBucker 3 in the bridge position.

The ProBucker 3 is slightly overwound to provide balance with the neck pickup with an added bit of edge for lead work. ProBuckers emulate the sound of original PAF pickups which were hand-wound with a few extra turns of wire. Both of the Ltd. Ed. Genesis PRO's pickups feature coil-tapping, which is activated by a push/pull volume speed knob control, allowing players an infinite variety of pickups sounds from single-coil bark to full humbucker bite.

When winding humbuckers, Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures quiet operation, free from microphonic hum. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is placed on the unit to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.

Epiphone uses only the highest quality parts for its pickups, such as ABS plastic bobbins, 1010 Cold Rolled Steel pole shoes and pole screws, Alnico magnets and the finest magnet wire available.

A Classic Made to Last a Lifetime
The Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe PRO features Epiphone's legendary rock-solid gold hardware including a LockTone Tune-o-matic fully adjustable bridge and a Stopbar tailpiece. And now, Epiphone's updated, patent pending design auto locks the bridge and tailpiece in place with no tools needed! This also results in improved sustain. The Epiphone LE Genesis Deluxe PRO uses 1 inch diameter potentiometers for better ‘throw’, longer life and reliable service. Epiphone's all-metal toggle switches use rugged spring-steel contacts to ensure years of reliable service and performance. Epiphone's proprietary output jack features an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel to increase reliability and gold Grover 18:1 machine heads on a classic '60s era Epiphone Sloped Dovewing headstock to ensure tuning stability and long life.

General
What is your overall opinion of this product?
Gorgeous guitar in Black Cherry. Coil splitting makes for versatility as Strat-like sounds can be achieved. Some minor finish and fret blemishes and weird feel to the neck.
Quality
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Really well put together for the price.
Feel
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
I haven't played an Epi/Gibson electric in six years (last one was a Gibson LP studio), pretty much exclusively playing Strats, so for me the neck is taking some getting used to. It's comfortable but an odd feel for me. It's thin front to back and wide from side to side (E to E). Epi says that's a "D" shape. Okay. Not bad, just different and as I've been playing this more I'm slowly getting used to it. Short(er) scale neck also takes some time to adjust too as I've been tending to move my fret hand too far while playing and overshoot the frets I'm aiming for.
Tone
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Love the tone. Although my favorite guitarists usually play Strats I'm finding out I can get a lot of the same sounds with the coil splitting and my ears aren't bleeding after, since you can still use the tone control on the bridge. Does get kinda dark sounding with lower notes, especially with the neck p/u, even with the tone control all the way to ten.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
There are some areas of red overspray on the binding and a couple of places where the red colorcoat is thin and appears to be missing good coverage. The finish seems soft to me. Already have pick scratches in it under the high "E" string and around the lower cutaway. That's fine though, scratches give it character. Epiphone says those are pearloid inlays on the fretboard but they look oddly like stickers; in certain light you can see a glossy surface surrounding the edge of the inlay. Might just be me though. Mine has a big glob of clear coat on the bottom edge of the fretboard (past the last fret). Would take no time to sand it down but haven't done it yet. The frets need polishing on mine, also. When I first received it and would bend notes I could feel the rough surface of the frets. Playing has taken care of that problem though.
Value
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Great value. If it wasn't for my fat, stubby fingers and playing some songs that I just can't make the stretch on with this guitar, I wouldn't need another.
Playability
How was the action out of the box?
Best way I can describe the action out of the box is 'good, but your results may vary.' Seems like Epiphone set it up so you can set it up. Medium high action (but playable) along the lines of a high action on a Strat. Still have room to raise the strings, if that's your thing, and lots of room to lower them. The "LockTone Tune-O-Matic" doodads work but my high "E" saddle is all the way forward and still isn't intonated. Also, I'd like the push-pull volume pots to have a tighter feel to them. When rotating them they turn smoothly but too easily compared to the tone pots which have more friction.
