Epiphone AJ500RC Masterbilt Acoustic Guitar

The Epiphone AJ500RC is a meticulously crafted instrument built with both extraordinary sound and comfort in mind.
Based on Gibson’s classic slope shoulder Jumbo design, the AJ500RC brings out the best in acoustic guitar tone. Featuring solid rosewood back and sides, a solid cedar top, slotted headstock and a comfortable 25 1/2 inch scale neck with historic V profile that joins the body at the 12th fret, the AJ500RC gives you the look and feel of performing on the finest old dreadnoughts of the 20’s and 30’s. A great guitar for any caliber player.

Excerpts from the March 2006 issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine review by Teja Gerken.
Here's a sneak peek at what Teja had to say:

“...Our review guitar had cosmetically attractive woods, and its craftsmanship was very clean in all visible areas..”.

“...I found myself enamored of its open quality and strong lower midrange..”.

“...a very cool guitar with a combination of specs and features that is difficult to find in its price range..”.

Acoustic Guitar Associate Editor Shawn Hammond added this:

“...the guitars remarkable, bell-like sustain and balanced response are exceptional for dynamic fingerstyle playing.
I was especially impressed with the guitar's note separation -
how distinctly individual strings ring out, even in complex chords..”.

About Epiphone Guitar
Since 1873, Epiphone instruments have been proudly played and endorsed by professional artists. And while every Epiphone is a compilation of over 125 years of experience working directly with musicians, only a few embody a single artists individual creativity and spirit. The Epiphone Signature Collection guitars are as legendary and as individual as the artists themselves.

Masterbilt Tradition
Epiphone began building production guitars in 1928. Over the next 2 decades the company blossomed into one of the most innovative and popular guitar brands the world had ever seen. As the Banjo boom declined and the age of the Guitar progressed, Epiphone dominated the market with its Masterbilt line of guitars. Today, Epiphone continues that tradition with the exceptional Masterbilt Acoustic Series. Combining beautiful solid tonewoods and superior craftsmanship with classic appointments such as the historic Epiphone script logo and mother of pearl stickpin inlay, the Epiphone Masterbilt Acoustic Series provides guitarists of any level with an instrument they will be proud to play.

Modern Masterbilts
Today’s Masterbilt Acoustic Series encompasses many of the most coveted aspects of fine guitar building for a remarkable price. Each Masterbilt guitar is constructed of the finest all solid tonewoods. The tops are braced using the 1930’s wide X bracing and extra deep scarfing to produce incredible resonance. The joints are hand fitted and glued using authentic hot hide glue, and the bridges and fingerboard are constructed of premium solid rosewood. The saddle is compensated bone, as is the nut. This premium construction is capped off with deluxe appointments including gold open backed tuners, a tapered headstock, mother-of-pearl inlays, and real abalone binding (on some models) to provide an instrument that is as impressive to look at as it is to play, feel, and hear.

Subject:Nice guitar but weird suspect problems with nut
Quality: Guitar is beautiful. Stunning out of the box, however, the action is a tad high and currently the guitar can't be tuned to standard tuning. I have gone through several sets of strings trying to tune to standard, the bridge saddle is cracking from the string pressure as well. I own another Epiphone MasterB DR500R and it was perfectly set up out of the box. I will need to replace the bridge saddle and have the nut looked at by my tech because I suspect that the nut is not cut properly
Reliability: Currently it's a string killer
Overall: Beautiful but in desperate need of a professional set up
Playability and Feel: Neck is a fun V shape and is promising to be a dream to play once the set up is complete
Tone: nice tone so far, but will need to tune properly to really tell, all signs point to a winner
Finish: perfect
Action: tad high and nut not cut properly
Skill Level: Semi-Pro

QUALITY:
I feel lucky to have this guitar in my hands. For one its so hard to find one of these. The quality of this instrument is supurb. It feels better than a lot of the higher end models I've played on. The quality is is by far among the best I've seen.

FEATURES:
Every about this guitar.. the Solid Cedar Top, almost looks like it is a one piece as the seam is hard to see. The rosewood back and sides are beautiful, the neck is smooth and nice, at least for me, some might not like the V neck but it isn't as pronounced as you might think. The classic styling of this Slot-Head 12 fret guitar will make you stand out from any crowd.

EASE OF USE:
This thing plays like butter. I couldn't put it down at all the first day I got it (Christmas 07). Now my fingers hurt and I can't play on it till my fingers heal a little bit. Open Chords, Barre Chords, Bends, slides all real easy. The setup was perfect straight out of the box.

"The multiple payment option is very convenient. This is my second purchase from AMS using this option."
