Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar

The Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy GX Electric Guitar is here! Take a good look! This is the electric guitar you’ve always wanted. Once you’ve seen it, you won’t forget it. Once you’ve plugged it in, you’ll never put it down. There’s just one problem. You can’t take your eyes off it. Trust us, that’s a common reaction. A highlight of Epiphone’s Prophecy Collection, the LP Custom GX has been designed to raise the pulse and moisten the palms of the world’s most demanding players. Like the seven other models in the Prophecy Collection, the LP Custom GX is a serious instrument with a heavyweight spec. Of course, you get the iconic Les Paul body, fashioned from top quality mahogany, topped with a quilt maple cap, finished in rich Black Cherry, and complemented with eye catching pearl knobs and unique blade fret inlays. And naturally, you get all the admiring glances that go with it.

Then you pick it up, and realize it’s also the most playable guitar in the shop, thanks to the SpeedTaper mahogany neck (featuring 24 jumbo frets), the bound ebony fretboard and the combination of LockTone tune o matic bridge and stop tailpiece that ensure you’re never messing with broken strings when you should be rocking out. All that’s left to do is crank up the Gibson Dirty Fingers humbuckers at the neck and bridge (with coil tap) and bask in a tone that moves from clean to filthy without missing a beat.

The Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul Custom EX Electric Guitar has arrived! As everyone from Jimmy Page to Slash will tell you, there is nothing in this world to compare with the feeling of thrashing a genuine Les Paul through a wall of stacked amps. It’s the sound of half a century of rock n roll, distilled to its essence, and turned up to 10. Nothing else comes close. Thanks to Epiphone, you don’t have to take their word for it. At the NAMM show in Anaheim, the world’s hottest luthier launched the best version yet of the LP design, and putting it within reach of working musicians who demand monster tone and bulletproof performance, it’s called the Les Paul Custom EX and it’s come to rock your world.

There’s no mistaking that shape. As the only luthier licensed to build official versions of the iconic Les Paul design, Epiphone have based the new Custom EX on the same cutaway mahogany body you’ve seen in the hands of your heroes, complete with a highly figured quilted maple top, a moody Midnight Ebony finish, eye catching pearl control knobs and unique blade fret inlays running along the length of a luxurious ebony fingerboard. It looks amazing!

But there’s more to the Custom EX than stunning looks. Pick this beauty up and you’ll be seduced by a SpeedTaper mahogany neck (with 24 jumbo frets) that lets you race through the riffs, alongside a tough LockTone tune o matic bridge and stop tailpiece that make maintenance and string changes a breeze. The icing on the cake is a pair of the meatiest humbuckers known to man, with an EMG 85 at the neck and an EMG 81 at the bridge. Isn’t it time you traded in the tennis racket?

Subject:Smooth Playing Guitar
Quality: I have never been more happy with an acquisition. This guitar looks and plays hot. Beautifully made top and the fret board is fantastic.
Reliability: I have only had my Prophecy a little over a week now, but in the truest tradition of Epi Les Paul's, I expect to be playing this one years into the future.
Overall: At this price, don't hestitate, get one. I love mine.
Playability and Feel: This gui6tar was lighter than most Les Paul's which came to me as a suprise bonus. The neck is thinner and extremely fast, another suprise bonus for me. As with all Les Paul's, the controls are easy to access during play.
Tone: You need to hear to believe the tone on this axe, it cranks at all levels and the EMG's are killer. The neighbors haven't complained yet but I play good music, this thing might bring the house down.
Finish: Mine arrived in perfect condition. Not a scratch or ding anywhere. Looks even better than the pictures shown here. I love the finish, a great looking addition to my Les Paul collection.
Action: All it took was a slight tuning job and battery replacement for this to be perfect right out of the box. I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Quality: Stellar job at putting a total package together. Strap locks, high quality tuners, Gibson USA pickups and blade inlays. Just awesome.
Sound: Spectacular. It is the closest thing out there to the $4,000.00 Gibsons.
Reliability: I just got it, so time will tell, but this axe is definitely put together well.
Overall: Great product. Kudos to Epiphone for this great release. I love the 24 frets, but people should be aware that this guitar does not fit the standard hard shell case for the Epiphone Les Paul. I got the case and had to remove 2 pads on the bottom to transport it home.
Playability and Feel: Like an old friend who buys you beer.
Tone: Crunchy and smooth all at once.
Finish: Second to none. Beautiful black cherry finish with the quilted maple. This finish alone is $800 on the "build your own" guitar sites.
Action: Like lightning.

Subject:Not too awful...
Quality: Aside from the uneven fret job on the first one, this guitar is quality to the T. It has all the features I could ask for, and is proving itself more and more every day.
Sound: The tone is phenominal; great single-coil twang on the pull-tap, with that fat humbucker rock tone when untapped. Really couldn't ask for a more versatile sound.
Reliability: Stays in tune well, and looks to be built like a tank; have only owned it for a few months, so time will tell.
Overall: Great pickups; own the black cherry with the dirty fingers, and I couldn't be happier with the pull-tap or humbucker tone. The neck setup left alot to be desired, and the frets were uneven to the point that I had to send it back for a new one.
Playability and Feel: A testament to Les Paul body styles; Heavy, solid, and reliable, but with a much faster neck that most traditional LP styles. Couldn't ask for more.
Tone: The tone is everything and anything. Twangy treble for country, fat, chunky sustain for rock, and the clean can be dialed in to whatever sound you could want.
Finish: The finish speaks for itself; gorgeous. The black cherry looks stunning under the stage lights.
Action: The frets buzzed horribly; finally had to send it back when my guitar tech told me it'd be another $150 to file and polish the frets. My new one still buzz'd out of the box, but a neck adjustment made it play just fine.

Quality: very well made. I've had it for about 3 months, and so far so good! couldn't ask for better quality. the finish is spectacular. the emg pickups are everything they are cracked up to be. you can play anything from mellow blues to hard metal with artificial harmonics anywhere on the fretboard!!!
Reliability: i've only had it 3 months but i play it pretty frequently and it hasn't did me wrong yet
Overall: The best bang for your buck as far as a les paul is concerned. If you wanna play you gotta pay
Playability and Feel: feels great. this is my first 24 fret guitar but it doesn't take long to add the few extra frets to your arsenal
Tone: anything imaginable. expecially if you have a digital effects pedal. the sky is the limit
Finish: fantastic finish. I love the dark and ominous look of it. the fret inlays are an added plus
Action: the action is great out of the box. No adjustments were needed for mine

Subject:Excellent Value
Quality: This instrument seems fairly well made, especially in this price range. I'm not exactly a luthier, however, I do some guitar work on the side, and I know quality work when I see it.
Reliability: Haven't had any problems that weren't direct results of my negligence. Cleaning the strings one day, and accidentally pulled on the 6th string a bit too hard, and ended up breaking off a piece of the nut. Graphite's fairly brittle, it turns out. Still works just the same. Haven't broken a string yet, and this thing stays in tune for quite a while. I have a very heavy right hand technique, constantly breaking picks, etc. To find a guitar that will take all that abuse and stay in tune, that's a good day. The graphite nut has a lot to do with it's stability.
Overall: Purchased this guitar for a few of it's features, with the intent of upgrading the things I didn't like. I wanted a Les Paul with an ebody fretboard, and active electronics. Body, neck, and headstock binding is a must for me. This guitar's got all of that, and cost me a mere $699, new, from AMS. Got in right before they went up. Having said that, I did ditch the stock pickups, and re-wired the entire thing by hand. Lined every body cavity with copper foil. New switchcraft switches and jacks, and I installed an EMG 81-TW, and an EMG-89. Also performed the 18-volt mod, and installed a pair of concentric potentionmers and a pair of DPDT switches to operate the coil taps for the pickups. The stock electronics are decent, but sounded compressed and a bit artificial to my ears. Now I have an amazing tonal range, and after the copper foil shielding, this thing is dead, almost spookily, quiet. I send the signal through a MXR Distortion III, into a Crate V50 that I've toyed with a b
Playability and Feel: Instrument plays very nicely. I had a really bad generic Les Paul as my first guitar, and I hated the horrible thing. The biggest turn off was the neck, I felt it to be too big and chunky. This Les Paul's neck is fairly thin, which makes it a joy to play. The neck start's life with a nice satin finish, but it's slowly been polished down to a shine, as I have a heavy left hand, and play a metric ton of barre chords. Actually feels faster this way, without the satin finish. Sliding chords is dead-easy on this thing. Practically effortless. Stock controls are pretty decent pieces. They get the job done with minimal fuss. Tuners are Grovers, and are excellent.
Tone: Tone was what you'd expect with a EMG 81/85 combo. Ebony fretboard combined with a thick mahogany body. Loads of sustain. Pretty much the standard "Nu-Metal/Rock" sound you hear a lot of these days.
Finish: Finish was gorgeous. Pictures really don't tell the tale. Check out one at your local guitar shop, if you can. I'm not a big fan of the fretboard inlays, but they're well done. Headstock inlay is nice and bright, has a lot of sparkle to it. Binding is nice looking, but some small spots are sort of rough, and a couple places have small shallow gouge taken out. The binding by the neck joint, on the face of the guitar, seems to have gotten stained. Fairly minor points for me, but it might be a deal breaker for some.
Action: Action out of the box left a lot to be desired. This isn't a problem with the guitar, but just a reality of production line production. Unless you can do it yourself, you owe it to yourself to take almost any guitar you buy to a professional luthier to have it set up. I ended up dropping the bridge quite a bit from it's stock position. I prefer a nice low, fast action. Intonation wasn't correct from the factory either. Didn't take long to correct, and now that everything's in line with how I want it, the instrument sings.
