What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
Good for any genre
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The neck profile is slim, making the guitar easily played. The guitar body and neck weight is well balanced.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
Pickup tones are decent, with both bright and warm settings
How did the stain or paint job look?
The body has a nice gloss finish
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
I was looking for a nice entry-level, affordable 8-string guitar with a 25.5 inch scale, and this is exactly what I got. I wanted a 25.5 inch scale so I could replace the strings with an extended range that included one high and one low string, and a longer scale 8-string guitar would not have handled the high string very well. I swapped out the strings for a set with gages .008, .011, .014, .018, .026, .034, .046 and .060, and tuned them from high to low GDAFCGDA--normal tuning dropped two steps extended with a high and low string. And now I just love it. If you are wanting the extended range for the two extra low strings you might want to consider a longer scale guitar, or maybe replace the strings on this one with a thicker gage. I found that with the factory supplied setup the lowest string tended to rattle when played.
How was the action out of the box?
Great action, but some rattle on lowest string
