Not bad, but spring for the H-308
What is your overall opinion of this product?
The ESP H-338 plays well, but the tone leaves me wanting. The stock ESP active pickups can't handle the low F#/E sting. The lower notes fart out and lack clarity. I'll be replacing the ESP pickups with the EMG 808s...should have ponied up for the H-308.
What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music?
This guitar fits in with the new styles of metal. The ESP active pickups aren't voiced well and cannot handle the low end.
Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
The neck is a bit on the short side, so you'll need a heavier gauge string than the stock.
How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin?
The tone is lacking. Do yourself a favor and spring for the H-308.
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish is a nice flat black color. It is a bit bland, but it doesn't look cheap.
Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range?
Get the 308...after replacing the pickups with the 808's the H-338 loses any value over the 308.
How was the action out of the box?
The strings are a bit loose. You'll need a heavier gauge.
