Built for tones that are so huge they have their own time zones, the Fender Jim Root Stratocaster has everything you need to be a rock master! The body is mahogany, offering up tones that are decidedly thicker than a traditional Strat. Couple that tonal girth with the combination of EMG 81 and EMG 60 pickups and you have a stunning display of hard rock power that will rattle the rafters! For effortless trips up and down the neck, the Jim Root Strat boasts a compound radius neck with either a maple fingerboard.
Fender Jim Root Stratocaster Electric Guitar Features
- Mahogany body for a fat tone and great clarity
- EMG 81 and EMG 60 active pickups provide monstrous tone from chunky rhythm to soaring leads
- Maple neck with a Modern C profile
- Black hardware for a killer look
- 12 inch to 14 inch compound radius fingerboard for optimal comfort all the way up the neck
The active EMG 81 and EMG 60 humbuckers have been the choice of Jim Root for years because of their full, cutting tone that can push amps into massive distortion. Hard rockers and shredders have gone to these pickups when they need something that can provide great definition when using heavy distortion and now you can experience that same great tone with the Fender Jim Root signature Strat.

Absolutely Amazing Instrument!! Fender and A.M.S. deliver!!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
The most bang for the buck I have ever encountered (and I have encountered them all) There is not another manufacturer that can boast offering such a high quality, USA made guitar at this price, AND include an incredible flight case, strap, chord, strap locks, and tools!
|
General
Your general opinion of this product.
The guitar is top notch. Fender has a significant history in instrument manufacturing, but many offerings are lower cost, off shore models. This example rates with the highest priced custom models. Beautiful woods on neck and fretboard, impeccably finished mahogany body, flawless frets, and heavy duty, black finish hardware. Electronics are first rate.

Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
This was the selling, and sticking point for me. This model combines the comfort and feel of a classic instrument with a fret board radius that more contemporary, shred guitars, are known for. Loving progressive rock, metal and jazz fusion, I have been looking for a guitar that allowed for speed and attack, while sounding sweet and articulate. In my opinion this is the only guitar that delivers on both ends.
|
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
I was skeptical about how the tone would be due to the EMG pick-ups. I always associated those with straight up metal. I was even planning on switching them out. However, I have been pleasantly surprised. Pick-ups offer supreme clarity and note articulation. More so, those pickups and the configuration of this model, blends the fender "snap" and the Gibson "smooth" like no other instrument I have ever played or owned. Its pretty fantastic through any amp, playing any style, at any volume.
|
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
The finish on the body is a flat, classic white. Finish is impeccable, but nothing that screams "boutique" finish. On the contrary, the finish is clearly understated, letting the instrument be the focus. So many manufacturers (both good and bad) focus on the emphasis of the look rather than the tone.

Action
How was the action out of the box?
This was the first guitar ever that upon its arrival didn't have me adjusting the bridge and truss rod immediately. Being a fan of Allan Holdsworth, Chris Poland, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Wes Montgomery, Death and the Dillinger Escape Plan, low action is tricky. It has to be low enough to allow for easy playability, but high enough to not "fret out" during more aggressive playing. This guitar came out of the case perfect.
