Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
For a USA product I believe it's lacking the detail. The first one I got I had to send back because of a weak neck. Just a tiny ammount of pressure on the neck would make it go sharp. There were also small finish scratches. I think this may have been a return and a used guitar. No way of knowing for sure. The 2nd one came a week later and the neck was alot better but the volume knob did not function properly. Bad pot. I decided to keep it and just fix the guitar myself. The nut needs recut also. These are not players out of the box for sure so don't expect plug and play. They do need work. For this price they should come with a setup but it is what it is. It is a vey well made guitar but the attention to detail just isn't there. It's almost like, Lets see how many guitars we can assemble and ship out today.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
Seems like a solid guitar but i've only had it for 1 day. The build quality is there. It just needs a little tweaking. I see no problems in the future
General
Your general opinion of this product.
I think for the Fender made in USA name is a fair price I also believe the Chinese are starting to kick our butts in craftsmanship. I think the Squier line is as good or not better than the USA specials and way cheaper. With these you are paying for a name. I have many Fender USA's , 2011 and earlier and have never had a problem with them and have had problems with the last 2. I don't know if I will ever buy another just from these 2 experiences.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
These specials have a nice chunky neck and jumbo frets. Neck is comfortable and the frets are dressed and level.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
About what you'd expect from a tele. The pickups are good but not great and I will eventually change them out but they will serve their purpose for now.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Finish is really good. They say it has a 3 piece alder body but I cant find any seams. On the first one they sent me I could see them(barely) but not on this one.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Action was a touch high but not unplayable. intonation was out and needed an adjustment. If you're not familiar with the 3 barrel saddles you're in for a treat and I wish you luck. I have experience with them so its no biggie but those of you that are new to them will need to relearn you intonation practices. To some it will be too hard and i'd suggest changing the bridge to a 6 saddle style.
