Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
best strat they make, really it left the factory after it had some real attention payed to it, the nut is cut correctly (really does stay in tune) no file marks on the well dressed frets, nicely rolled edges on the fretboard, everything was screwed down tight, and wiring looks clean. very dependable? well sure its a strat beat the crap out of it! and it will only look in sound better!!!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
have not run this baby through the ringer, but its solid, well built, and the thing that has a chance of failing might be the S1 wearing out over a decade or so but with the exception of the frets strat age better than people!
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
best playing factory strat a lefty can buy!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
the compound radius make a big difference here, and why it has taken fender so long to make a guitar with this feature standard vexes me, the satin finish is smooth and the C shaped neck is the standard template that has launched a thousand variations, the S1 switch is the only thing that differ from a regular strat setup and it easy to use on the fly, but when you do press it the selection on the 5-way seem odd, for instance when your in the neck p.u. position and hit the switch it goes to a notchy out of phase tone that isn't immediately usable (bridge/Mid in series/out of phase/in parallel with the neck p.u.) it very bright, and a little weak odd because the last version of the amdlx the S1 switching was perfect as the 1st position went to a full humbucker type tone when pressed, that tone is still there but in the 2nd position so it harder to get that single coil to humbucker sound fast as you have to press the S1 and move the 5-way over a notch.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
tone, well here's how mine sounds to me (cause yours is going to sound different der) the N3's are quiet so too those of you who think that buzz and hum are part of that strat sound well its not there they are silent, but tone wise they sound nice, clean they are chimey and a little snappy but are not overly bright as to be shrill the mids are complex, probably because they aren't hot pickups, it almost feels like they are hot pickup with the volume rolled down to about 7 or 6.5 assuming that fender built some extra resistance into them but I'm not a tech. with overdrive they remain sweet, and complex with lot of music ready to poor out, with fuzz or heavy distortion they start to remind me of brighter P90s. just lovely.
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
deep glossy 3t sunburst nicely figured alder body appeared to be 1pc. was in fact 2 well bookmatched.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Excellent, low without buzzing A great tech who knows your playing style in and out and is willing to spend hours making the tiniest adjustments. like butter!
