WoW! A Big Surprise
Quality
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I only owned it for a few days, but it seems well balanced and even had a real decent set up too. It's sturdy and so far very dependable - I think it will stand the test of time if taken care of properly. I wouldn't hesitate to gig with it or use it in my teaching...that's for sure!
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
So far so good. I'm expecting good quality out of it - I mean, it sure seems like it has what it takes to rely upon. It's made really well...nice job Fender!
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
Wow, The American Strat has nothing on the MIM one! Seriously, this was quite a surprise all the way around. It actually has quality workmanship, looks. sound and finish!
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Has a nice smooth feel (neck-wise) and even the body feels right...good balance to it. Definitely satisfied with it overall in this regards too.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
Does it all (for real) you can achieve what you want just by experimenting around with it. It jams for sure! Can't go wrong buying this one (really)!!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
Beautiful, really beautiful. I got the brown sunburst with the rosewood fretboard. Awesome!
Action
How was the action out of the box?
I'm a blues player and the action was fine for me, not too high, not too low - just about right. I don't anticipate taking it in for a set up. I'm pretty much satisfied right where it's at. Good Job!

This is an incredibly undervalued guitar!

Some people turn up their nose at these because they're made in Mexico. This bears the Fender name...it'snot a Squier, or some other knockoff...it's a Fender and is a solid playing and sounding guitar. Mexico has been producing guitars for many, many years...it isn't like this is new for them. Gibson markets their knockoffs as Epiphones produced in Korea (or elsewhere) - they'r decent guitars, but Gibson doesn't put their name rigt on them like Fender did with this. Fender is a proud name and this is good guitar.
Reliability
How has it stood up over time?
I've owned this only for a short time but feel this is something I will have a very long time and will stand up to the that test. It's a true Fender and is made soild with quality materials.
Overall
Your general opinion of this product.
I bought this guitar from AMS during a recent promo sale. I paid around $449 for this. It plays and sounds like a guitar two to three times this price. I know it's made in Mexico, but they take pride in their products too and have built a sound, a versatile guitar that justifies the Fender name...this is a Fender Strat - period. The HH feature gives this an incredible range of sound potential and the neck feels like an old friend rigt out the box. It feels solid and sounds great. I have several other guitars and this has now become my favorite. A lot of guitars with tremelo syste easily get out of tune when using the tremelo, but this stays nicely in tune. I own several other electrics and have always fancied myself a Gibson first person, but am very happy with this guitar.
Playability and Feel
How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing?
Fast, light and very solid. No problem accessig the controls at all but I the whammt bar can sometimes get in the way if you keep in the 'up' position. I don;t often use it anyway so I usually don't attach it. I tend to work a neck pretty hard and need a good solid joint between the neck and body if it's a bolt on - this is nicely attached and haven't had any problems. I had a Schecter which I returned for this reason - I'll be keeping this guitar.
Tone
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
The tones this is capabe of producing astound me. For a $450 guitar, I've never played anything so versatile. One particular nice ting I like about this guitar is how bright and strong the treble sounds on this - other guitars fall off and sound weak on the higher strings but this is fully balanced and plays both the bass and treble strings with appropriate strength - this sounds like a $2000 guitar!
Finish
How did the stain or paint job look?
I went with the traditional maple sunburst finish - I like the looks with a rosewood fretboard, but it was toss up with the Artic white - I wanted to be able to see some wood gran and th sunburst provides that. There was one minor blemish bt I don't know if that was amanufacturing or in-house issue...you can only see from a side view and even then it' hard to see...but because of that, I took one star off the rating.
Action
How was the action out of the box?
Fast - right out the box, this was set up very comfortably. I haven't made any adjustments because this feels so comfortable and I like the way it plays righ now. The neck is thin but solid and is a very easy guitar to play. A low profile neck makes this easy to fly up and down fretboard effortlessly. No high frets, solid up and down. I have the rosewood fingerboard but think the maple would be just a nice
